Smithies would be loose forward next year for me, no doubts at all that he is going to be a special player. With farrell and hopefully bateman in second row. 3 80 minute players which would allow some impact subs maybe even an impact 9? Losing lockers tommy and gildart is gonna take some replacing and it might be one or two players who replaces all 3 and use the lads we have already.

Yeah he’s right. He wasn’t a bad player by any stretch but one of the best two second rowers to have graced superleague? Absolutely not. The whole team was a farce really. No nomination for Terry Newton at hooker or Lam at scrum half (yet nominations for Danny Houghton, Danny Brough etc) and then the ultimate farce was Sculthorpe being in the second row category to then put Sinfield in the loose forward category and he ends up keeping Andy Farrell out....do me a favour! Sinfield was a cracking big game manager from six but bang average at loose forward.

Not to mention Lockers who has got in pretty much every dream team ahead of him

Twitter seems rife with the rumour of Bateman returning. Hastings has commented on one link with an eye and mouth opening emoji to which someone has replied ‘Hastings off marquee, Bateman on in 2021’. Hastings has followed up saying he’s never been on marquee and Bateman can have all his money if he can play with him. It’s only a jokey Twitter convo but gives hope Hastings might stay more than one season.

It would really surprise me, apparently he’s on 600k AUD and could maybe get 800k-1m if he tested the market over in the NRL. 800k AUD is around £440k. If he is desperate to come back he might take a bit less over here, maybe closer to £300k?maybe £350k and I don’t see Wigan in the market to pay that, not with what’s happened. Maybe they will wave goodbye to Tommy and Lockers and that will cover Batemans wages I don’t know but I reckon there is more chance of seeing him in Warringtons colours next season.

If so, that would be one monstrously elastic salary cap that Warrington have.

If Bateman was to return to Wigan he would need to take a contract a lot less than what he could earn in the NRL.

He’s openly said his main aim for his career is to earn as much money as possible (who can blame him)

Just doesn’t add up to me.
