He's been stood down indefinitely by the Raiders due to requiring further shoulder surgery.
I really hope he recovers from this but to be brutal we shouldn't entertain signing him until he's proved his fitness.

Surely it isn't his agent "playing" the market to secure Bateman an improved deal??
From the start I never understood why Canberra hadn't extended his contract unless his agent was asking for a ridiculous deal.
I've no problem whatsoever in a player maxing his earnings but Bateman isn't the calibre to be the best paid player on the rota in probably any Aussie team.

It's more to do with family, things haven't worked out quite as planned.

Canberra are up to their cap limit for next year so can't offer an increase in Batemans deal.. He has been told he can look for a better deal if ones out there. They want to keep him but don't have the cap space

He's nowhere near the best paid player in Australia.

If they wanted to keep him they would find the money, someone else would be shown the door.

Less money, but a marquee player, and more happiness and peace of mind is an attractive combination.

I would be fizzing. It is possible to build a clause into a contract to cover the eventuality of serious injury.
