We had him for the Salford play off semi too so it's three out of our last four home games I don't mind him to be honest

Saints are hard to break down at the best of times and being down to our 5th choice half (Behind Smith, Field, Cust and Hampshire) is going to be even harder.



I was more hopeful when it sounded like Paasi was out as him and Walmsley are huge for Saints but sounds like he’s good to go.



Cliche but we just need to keep it tight, defend well and take the few chances we’ll get.

With Powell in the halves, I honestly can’t see us scoring unless it’s a bit of individual magic from French. I’m dreading it. Saints by at least 16.

Disappointed that Astley isn't on the bench. It could have given us a point of difference if the halves pairing wasn't working. Nothing we have in that squad offers us that as it's likely to be Powell (slow with little kicking game) or Shorrocks (not quite as slow but with even less kicking game). Astley is inexperienced but he's quick and has a good kicking game. I think we have missed a trick not having him on the bench to bring on if things aren't clicking.



Hopefully Farrell and Marshall are available and, perhaps more importantly, are not playing injured/ill as they're likely to be found out if that's not the case. Without them we lose a lot of cutting edge in attack.



Fingers crossed for a good game.

Anybody know what time the South Stand gates open tomorrow please ?

Almost a full house tomorrow. For the sake of the game we need a classic contest to attract new viewers, spectators and sponsors.

That would be great, let's hope the club makes an absolute killing tomorrow inside and out the arena. Weather looks dry and sunny all day so should be packed out. I hope the club are ready for it.

Wonder why the club isn't providing a pay on the gate option for the final batch of tickets, particularly as the weather is supposed to be nice.

Probably risk related with only limited availability left. It could be a request from the police, generally they are involved when the away end sells out.

Hope the club (and it will) run out of stock in the village. Balls to the stadium concessions, let's get the village packed out and line the pockets of our club.

We will need Smith firing on all cylinders tomorrow if we have Powell in the half's, he poses no real attacking threat and will be easy to read in defense so we will struggle trying to create an overlap, we can't rely on defence winning us the game, we will need to score points and they may be hard to come by with just Smith and French our main attacking threats

I believe it is a sell out.

Some on RedVee think Dodd may be injured with Welsby in the halves. As with Farrell, I'll believe it when I see it.

What a team. Peet has brought the feelgood factor back. Get Toby King signed up. He is just getting started. He will play the best rugby of his career here. Clearly suits the environment he is in. What a performance. Im glad Redvee has pointed out that we played at 100% whilst they only played at 50% and the ref got man of the match.

Well done wigan - deserved winners.

A game won by effort that one. Given Field and Cust were missing we had to play a certain way, and we did it to perfection.



That said, Saints had they taken their chances would have won, so we still have to be a lot better come the big games that do matter.

Just a massive effort for 80 mins. I thought Shorrocks and Smith were superb but the whole team just wanted it more. Saints will be far better next time but we can be way better as well, once we have more threat.

Almost faultless performance. Saints didn’t take their chances because of the efforts of people like Shorrocks and Farrell to chase back. Toby King was excellent, I’m sure he recognises he needs to be at that level more often and it was a delight to see actual centres play both sides of the game well. Only negative was Singleton, 11 mins and dragged off. If it wasn’t for injuries I think he’d be well out of the 17 going forward.

Any news on Cooper?

Great result and enjoyable game. Brilliant to see a packed stadium again and so much income for the club.



Our superior energy and defensive intensity won us that game. We controlled Saints really well at the ruck. Smith's kicking game also very strong. We were never going to score lots of tries today but we saw the value of having two specialist centres and Smith/French executed well with those two tries.



For Saints, Konrad Hurrell was almost unstoppable going forward but his lateral movement can let him down and we managed to exploit that. Welsby/Dodd were poor and generally the forward pack didn't look to have the same impetus that it has done in recent years. But still very dangerous and if they'd had put the ball down in that no try video decision it would have been very nervy.



Hope Cooper and Matuaita are OK.

That said we take one or two chances of the 5 we bombed and it’s a different story. Wigan were clinical in taking theirs. There’s a scrum play with the easiest walk in try if Lomax gives it to Percival and yet he keeps hold of it. Last season that’s probably a try. Fine margins.



I thought Shorrocks was outstanding today for Wigan in all fairness.



For Saints we need some changes. I’d put Welsby in the halves because he’s struggling at 1 and needs to be on the ball more. I’d probably give Ritson a go too as we’ve no pace and Hopoate is a passenger.



Good to see a great game in front of a packed house in the sun.

We bombed a few chances too and could have had 18 on the board at half time. Overall I thought we were good, especially considering a second row was filling in at stand off. It was the most disciplined performance I’ve seen from us in a long time.



I thought St Helens simply didn’t have a plan B with Walmsley being out and Paasi a passenger.



I’m with you on Hopoate, not sure what he brings to your side.

I don't see what use Hopoate is to you as a winger I have to say. He's a fullback first and centre next.
