He was only on loan for the season, but for some reason not given a squad number in spite of the club holding his registration.

Clarke on the other hand who we understood was to leave has been given a squad number which makes you wonder if he is now being retained now that that all rumours about Thompson has died down and the club reported as saying they are not making any more signings.

And what is happening with Josh Woods who was only on a season long loan at Leigh, but no news about his future either by the club or Leigh Centuriuns.

The clubs reporting of players being retained or released at all levels is poor to say the least!

Even the player profiles on the club website are not up to date as many of the 2020 first team fringe, Under 18 and Under 16 Academy teams have been released over recent weeks.

The reporting of player movements by the club leaves a lot to be desired, especially when supporters are getting informed by by the social media rather than or before the club release any news.

Could that possibly be due to staff bring on Furlough and not currently in work?

Wouldn't surprise me if Burgess has an op next year and maybe is out for the entire season whereby his wages would be exempt from the salary cap.
I think that this is the only way that we are going to see any new players or retain the likes of Clark or Navarette

Burgess' salary may be exempt from the cap but will still have an effect on the club's balance sheet.

Bit of a leap that. I want him off the cap too but I'm sticking this next to 'Canterbury are signing him and we are getting Thompson' in terms of likelihood.

I'm assuming Ted that IL has brought Danson in to help out on the cash flow where required
Why else bring him in?

GB's salary will be paid irrespective if he plays or he doesn't so if he's off the cap we could bring in additional personnel say mid season if we hit injuries or bad form.
The hit to the cash flow would be any additional heads to the current budget that I'm assuming that the club has set for 2020.

Purely speculation on my part but if I was in charge it's something I would be considering

Pure speculation on my part Grimmy but wouldn't fall off my chair if this happens.
Can you think of another way of getting him off the cap other than he retires on medical grounds?

I'd be amazed to see GB on the pitch next year so wouldn't be surprised if the club considers something like this.

I'm not sure it's the club's choice. If he is determined to play then the club may well be legally and morally bound to work with him to achieve that by going through physio etc. Otherwise potentially GB could claim they didn't follow their duties and a medical insurance company could say proper steps weren't followed to ascertain that he could never play rugby again.

Im not saying that as GB doing a bad thing either. Aside from the financial side of things, a lot of these guys know nothing other than playing rugby, and he likely feels some obligation to come back and play well for Wigan after the money spent on him. I remember Fielden expressing similar sentiments. Put yourself in his shoes, been playing rugby since 6 years old or whatever, knows he has the talent and wants nothing more than to skittle people in a Wigan shirt. It would be hard for him to call it quits.

Having said all that Rogues said he won't be at Wigan next year. I regularly jump on people with bull**** rumours but I don't think Rogues would say that if he didn't have something solid to base it on.

If he’s off the cap then to all intents he won’t be at the club albeit for a year.
Putting myself in GB’s off all next year to get himself right for the following season is not a bad option

I think it could work for both GB and the club

I’m just surprised that there has no information from the club re date for his operation. Unless he has some sort of miracle cure it is most likely that he needs an op to hopefully resolve his issue

It is my understanding that the condition is chronic and cannot be cured.

If he continues it is a case of any treatment being a sticking plaster only.

I’m not sure the extent of his contract but sadly for us fans, and more importantly the man himself I don’t think we will see the type of performances from George that we know he is capable of without the hip issue.

If it isn't curable Jon then why haven't we terminated his contract?
By the way I genuinely hope that he can be cured both for the club and the lad himself. I'm sure he wants to deliver on the pitch

My knowledge of sporting insurance is zero so I'l have to assume that the club isn't covered for his current injury otherwise he would have been retired already?
