This is what I find very strange.

He was offered around the NRL clubs prior to him joining us and not wanted to touch him with a barge pole because of the nature of his injury.

I even think there were some quotes from Madge in the press referencing the injury and it’s chronic nature and that being the reason he couldn’t get a deal in Australia.

Next thing he passes a medical for us.

Something doesn’t sit right.

Tom took the medical for him

Warrington have sent Sammy Kibula on loan to Newcastle. Another one that never seems to have fulfilled his potential - although he hasn’t had many super league chances. Is it a training problem? Must admit I was worried when wire signed him that it would come back to bite us but doesn’t seem to have taken off.

Just don’t see the potential in Kibula. Got the skills decent hands for a big lad but a startling lack of athleticism.

Size gets you so far in the game and can compensate some major issues even in Academy rugby but I just don’t see him as a player capable of playing at SL week in week out.

All that is wrong with Kibula is a lack of aggression which is a bit strange for a big lad who has come from a African country like the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

I wish him all the best at Newcastle Thunder and hope that Betts can solve out the problem.

You see it a lot, players reliant on being the biggest and strongest player on the pitch coming unstuck once they are put into a situation where other players are big and strong/have good technique.

I wonder whether he played an age up as a youngster. It would be better for the development of the player in a lot of circumstances IMO, forcing them to develop their skills rather than rely on pure size advantage. Amateur coaches tend to go a bit sheepish when you suggest this to them, they're usually more bothered about making sure their age group wins than developing individual players (I'm not necessarily saying this happened with Kibula, but it does happen loads).

And neither would any Lancastrian.

Are big lads from the DRC always aggressive? Bit like Warrington folk?

I've always found it's the little lads from St Helens who are particularly angry.
