Was speaking to a CEO of a club before Christmas who applied for the spot.

He pretty much said he put his proposal in on the back of a fag packet and it was filled with lies and false promises.

The club in question had no desire at all to get the spot but felt they needed to publicly at least make it look as if they wanted a spot for the sake of fans questioning their ambitions.

He said under the format proposed they couldn’t afford to be a SL club and that as you say in the medium term it will cause the successful club more issues than a year in SL would resolve.

The odds are stacked against Leigh due to their being told late they were promoted and that they'll get far less than their opponents in central funding. The club that's promoted for the 2022 season that benefits most.
Either way, my preferred option would be a three year guarantee of a place in SL.

Personally think KR have added some real quality so far.

5 decent forwards recruited.

Don’t get me wrong don’t think they will be challenging for trophies but think they will go ok in 2021, can’t see them being in a fight for survival.

They’ll shock the odd side, probably pick up some notable wins too but ultimately I can’t see them surviving. I get they need a SL squad but over spend at their peril, they’re far better planning for relegation and re promotion back to SL when they’re not at a severe disadvantage

It is interesting to think how Leigh and the teams who didn’t get promotion will tackle things. Leigh will struggle to stay up no doubt about it and then you see Toulouse, whose coach couldn’t hide his anger and disappointment at not being chosen, having to play next season in the championship but that league will have its best side now in superleague and Toulouse could get a reasonably free run at promotion and 12 months extra to plan. They could well be sat there this time next year and think what a blessing not going up was.

Toulouse and London aside I don’t think the other clubs were serious about it. I think you’re right in thinking Toulouse/London will be sat there thinking “thank the lord we didn’t go up”. In fact I’d be surprised if they weren’t thinking that now. This way they can plan player and financial wise for promotion.

Toulouse definitely weren’t at the time, they were raging but they could well get a free run now and over a year to put things in place for coming up. I think we need them in as a game to show we’re not just stuck in our M62 ways. It’s a City of huge potential for the game.
