Picture yourself in the freezing cold ice running up a hill at 7am at Haigh Hall whilst your team mate suns himself in Australia (that’s the perception you’d have). Picture yourself day in day out pushing yourself through gruelling wrestling and fitness sessions in the mud and the cold trying to force your way into Lams plans whilst your team mate gives an interview to the Daily Telegraph saying how much he wants to come home and not play for Wigan (again the perception you’d have). Picture yourself busting a gut, nursing injuries aches and pains to get a starting shirt and in walks Hastings. Struts over, picks up his jersey and bang he’s back in without a word said. He can do no wrong. You’ve pushed yourself to the limit over the full pre season, starting early, finishing late. Eating and sleeping Wigan RL and in walks in some up his own backside Aussie who doesn’t really want to be there and takes your place.
Personally, I’d be f*****g fuming if I were a player, especially a young one trying to earn their way.
To be honest the more I think of it that way the more I’m shifting my opinion. In reality has CV19 really affected our overseas players that much? Their contact with home would be FaceTime/Skype anyway. Honestly I don’t see how much more it could affect them than it would British players. Perhaps the social side with your team mates would negatively impact them but generally nothing else.
I’m not angry he’s not back in anyway but what I’m starting to understand is the frustration of some fans over his pining to go home. I do actually think it’s admirable he’s honest about it, fair play to him and I won’t begrudge him another shot at the NRL, he has the talent to be decent IMO and I think he’ll be regretting choosing to represent GB if he goes really well.
He, and French, should be back and have been back for 2/3weeks now. What we as a club need to stop immediately is bending over backwards for decent players. Not one player is bigger than the club. Have some compassion yes but I can’t help but think this wouldn’t have happened under Wane. Nor would Jackson be making such statements without some sort of consequence at the club.
