I'm starting to wonder why we keep talking as if Manfredi will automatically walk into our 1st team and be the answer to all our problems.

I'm sorry for the guy, but he's now 27 and continues to be notable more for his absence from the field than his presence.

And on the few occasions when he's fit, is he really that special? Marshy has been far more effective for my money. Of course, we don't what he'll be like after a long lay-off. As well as looking to recruit a prop, perhaps we need a winger as well.

It’s incredible that he has been called up the the England squad really.

This though is the frustration of him.

When fit he is in my opinion the best winger in the comp and has all the ability and potential to be described as World Class some day.

You sadly though don’t get that title off potential and sadly through the injuries he has picked up he hasn’t been able to perform anywhere near that level and with each injury he picks up it looks increasingly unlikely he ever will.

I’m not nagging him as he has been my favourite winger to watch for some time at Wigan but we need him on the field, playing and getting back to his blockbusting best.

If it doesn’t happen this year then I really can’t see it happening at all.

Manfredi looked to be playing in pain last season to me. Hopefully that was the issue he had fixed with the floating bone fragments.

In my mind it’s almost going to like starting again with Manfredi and seeing what’s he’s got, a bit like when a youngster first comes in to the team. The Manfredi of 2015/2016 was a cracking player but it’s a long time ago and a lot of bad injuries ago. Does he still have that pace? The confidence in his body to twist and turn out of tackles? Jump for high balls with simply the aim of catching the ball on his mind and not self preservation? There are so many unanswered questions but I do look forward to his return and I have always and continue to back the club In supporting him. I really do hope for his sake and ours that we’ll be rewarded for that patience at some point. It may be blind faith but I think we will still get plenty out of the lad yet.

Based on what?

If he is in the starting 13 we have to assume he is fully fit. May not be match fitness / sharp but we have to assume his injuries have healed.
