At this time of year I think the Sunday games are positive. Not a lot to do with the family in this current weather, so to be able to go in the daytime, when it’s a bit warmer than the colder evenings is better for many. It’s all personal taste but I’m happy with Sunday’s early in the year and Friday evenings as it warms up and stays lighter longer. I was always a fan of the Sky Saturday evening kick offs and wouldn’t mind a few of those.

Agree. If I want to take my five year old grandson then Sunday games are better at this time of year. Also if I'm driving to away games then Sunday is much better for traffic and not having to drive home in the dark. Certainly the likes of Hull and Hull KR are easier for us and them on a Sunday and of course the infamous M60 - M602 road closures at night!!!!!!!

I thought Byrne was superb on Sunday and it’s probably just reward for him to start the game. I get what you’re saying but if felt the issues in the early rounds were more down to having kids starting alongside ten minute Tony and then kids coming off the bench. I’d probably ease Flower and Burgess back in, so it would be Bullock or Byrne for that last starting spot. I thought Bullock made a couple of errors on Sunday, with a knock on which lead to a penalty and him sleeping for their try. He’s a cracking player Bullock and we need him in the side but I’d like to see them give Byrne that reward of starting.

I think the slow starts are still an issue despite the good win on Sunday. Clubb being out, if that's the case, could help with this but I do think it's noticeable how much better we are when the likes of Burgess, Bullock and Clark come on. I guess you could argue that, as a tactic, it's working fine but I wouldn't necessarily relish going into Good Friday with that as a game plan. I feel we need to offer a bit more go forward in the early stages of games and I'm not sure a Byrne/Partington combination is the best one to achieve this. Partington's 'dancing feet' try at the weekend still points to him being more than just a battering ram. I also thought he passed at the line a la Lockers a bit more too which was good to see.

I'm not saying it wouldn't work for the Hull KR game but I'm not so sure we wouldn't be better utilising the, on paper, easier games to prepare for the sterner tests to come.

Horses for courses for me. I fully agree that going in to Good Friday I wouldn’t be starting with Partington and Byrne but circumstances dictate that selection at the minute IMO. I don’t think Flower will be right to start, George Burgess is probably better served playing from the bench for a couple more weeks and that would leave me with a choice of who warrants a starting shirt more out of Bullock and Byrne from Sunday and Byrne was comfortably the better performer on the day.

Going forward I’d want us to hopefully work towards getting George Burgess ready to start on Good Friday. We can’t afford to start that game back peddling against Thompson and Walmsley and I fear that is what we’ll be doing unless we throw something back at them from the off. It’s nice to have some options regardless and to be able to think about how we can build in to that game.

Very true. Nice to have options as you say. I think Lam would prefer to start with at least one senior prop but I'm sure the young lads will do a job if selected.

Re: Hull KR : Tue Mar 03, 2020 7:44 pm
If we lose the forward battle v Saints on Good Friday we’ll be looking at a 16 point plus loss. We must start with our strongest, most experienced props which means Burgess and Flower/Clarke with Bullock, Bryne and Oli off the bench. Clubb hasn’t been anywhere near good enough and will be a hinderance v Saints. He alone could be the difference between a narrow win or a huge loss.
