A shame IMO as the Wigan v Leigh fixture is unlikely to fulfil it's potential attendance wise if it ends up as a midweek fixture. Usually the only way to avoid that is if both teams are knocked out of the Challenge Cup.

An open goal missed not having it in week one and then when you realise they’ve done that, it just puts a top hat on it! You go from an exciting, attention grabbing and potentially feisty (after the last game) opener, between the cup winners and the champions, in front of 20,000, to it being a mid week fixture in front of 11/12k.
We’re going nowhere fast as a sport unfortunately.
Absolute mind boggling, no thinking has gone into these supposed fixtures yet again.
This sport is dying.
The sport isn't dying. In fact the NRL is thriving with new expansion teams and more rep football.
The issue over here is always what is has been - the RFL isn't fit to run anything. They are fit to organise fixtures, discipline players, organise matches etc. Totally and utterly inept, but the second anyone (IL, IMG or a rich owner) tries to change it the usual suspects are up in arms.
The tail waggs the dog. Maybe the idea of Derek's break away league isn't too crazy.

Not reckon? Reduced TV deals yet again, Channel 4 have reportedly walked away, Samoa cried off touring at the end of the season, Magic weekend at Elland Road and now I've just read that IMG have just handed the RFL an invoice for half a million quid.

I don't believe that about an invoice, the deal made with IMG was that they are paid at the end of the contract, and the amount they get payed is totally results dependant. I imagine there is a minimum charge, but it will be nowhere near this number and we are around 10 years away from having to pay that.
Basically, they should have no right to invoice any amount currently, this deal is an invesment on both sides.
