I said this to a union supporting friend of mine. His response was to say'he is the best winger in English union of course he would'. My point exactly, the best English winger wouldn't get a game at Wigan unless Charnley moved into the centre.

Ashton is not a patch on Sam and wouldnt be anything special on the wing in Rugby League and like others have said wouldnt get in the Wigan team.

Anyway, away from Ashton.

I think it's about time Lenegan tried to sign Larne Patrick, I've been banging on about him for a couple of years and I think his contract is up at the end of the year, we could have Mossop, Prescott, Spencer and Patrick as our main 4 props for years to come. Thoughts?

Well if he is indeed out of contract come season end, I certainly wouldn't be against him signing. But I think Huddersfield will have him tied up sooner rather than later.

The Burgess brother still at Bradford and Dobson are the two I'd go for and maybe Owen from Cas.

Huddersfield are a very well run club and will have Patrick tied up before long. They haven't lost a player of note for a long while even though clubs have looked at a few (they were happy to release Griffin).

Burgess at the Bulls is a shout as is Emmit at Cas for the prop positions. As for halfbacks or hookers that we certainly need it's so tough to say. I'm not sure who's out of contract here or in the NRL. I'd love to see Gaskell get pushed out at Saints by Hohiha but I can't see it.

Wouldn't have Emmit, I'm sure if Patrick was offered a decent contract he'd come as we are a bigger club. (Awaits Troll telling me we can't buy who we want anymore as it isn't 1990)

Gaskell would be worth a punt also

The thing is though I don't think we'll outbid a club like Huddersfield for Patrick. We'll offer him what we think he's worth and not a penny more and it's likely not to be enough.

We do business in a different way to how we used to now. We don't get in to bidding wars and due to that we seem to miss out on the vast majority of available English talent. We've seen it recently with Ratchford, Griffin, Mcarthy Scarsbrook, Carvell etc etc.

If both Wigan and Huddersfield put the same offer on the table for Patrick he'll stay with them IMO. They gave him his chance and are a good club. I think he'd want to repay them.
