With hindsight could there be an argument for a larger stadium? Downsides would be giving up home advantage, the potential costs of hiring another stadium and the risk of empty seats. But in an ideal world the fixture would gain some momentum in the coming years and bigger stages are considered (ala Leeds at Elland Road for a few years).
I asked the question previously but no-one seems to know how the revenue is distributed.
Tough to say really but I’m not sure we’d have seen this sort of snowball effect had we taken the game to the Etihad for example. The game sold 10,000 tickets on Day One and that has just got peoples backsides in gear. I got them towards the end of that first week because of the strong sales or else I probably wouldn’t have bothered yet. Had the game been at the Etihad, I think you then run a risk of not building up the sort of momentum you have by having a limit of 23/24k and as weeks go by people can find excuses not to go.
When all comes to all I think pretty much everyone desperate to be there will be. Had we taken it to the Etihad, I think we might’ve managed around 30k but it’s a costly exercise and the empty seats aren’t a great look on TV.
