Our haphazard approach is concerning though. We signed French when we didn't need him at the time (Hardaker was FB), we signed Field when we didn't need him (Slow salary? Forward planning for French or Hastings leaving?), we now may be signing another fullback to play on the wing?

They mentioned couple of weeks back that a number of SL clubs was in for his signature. Yesterday they said Wigan had won the race. Played a lot at wing, fullback and even half. No idea if it's true.

If true, maybe he will spend next season on loan with Whitehaven.

I’ve seen Walmsley play on the wing a number of times this season and he has been very, very good. Can kick a goal too…whether or not he signs for us, he is more than capable of stepping up and playing super league. He could have a similar impact than Ashton did at wire last season for whoever he goes to.

There was some talk of Wire being in for him. I’d take Matty Ashton off their hands if he’s going to struggle for game time again.

It's about building a squad, not just collecting talent. I absolutely think he would be a good signing for an SL team but he wouldn't be a good use of cap space for us. We are well stocked at FB and Wing.

I think quota space is probably more pertinent than cap space. He was only looking for between £10-25k before joining Whitehaven so I can't see his salary being prohibitive. He does use up another quota space though which pretty much rules out an overseas half or centre unless there's something I'm missing.

Unless there is a bigger picture or master plan in the background using a quota spot on another outside back is a bad move…as the squad currently sits.

Since then he has gone really well in the Championship. I'm not saying he will be on megabucks but demand will have driven his price up I'm sure. Agreed regarding the quota spot too. We could well be kicking ourselves if/when an non-fed player in a position of need becomes available mid season. I don't think this is happening anyway to be honest so probably getting worked up over northing.

We may be stacked full of full backs but Hardaker may not be here next year and French is only signed for one year.
During 2021 we've never put out our 1-7 all at the same time due mainly to injuries.
If we don't re-sign Hankinson then another goal kicker will be essential.
Could be a good signing, we'll have to wait and see.

We've already resigned Hankinson. He signed a 2 year deal and then went out on loan.
