It’s as simple as ‘your under contract, get your backside here on time or you’ll be fined’ for me. How he does that is his business, as is signing a new contract. I work in Manchester City centre and can sit in traffic for an age both there and back each day. I have mates who work in Manchester but travel to York, London and various other places. My dad took a job in the Prison service when he was about 40 and we were kids and we didn’t want to move house/school, so he did two years commuting to Wolverhampton and back each day just to get a start in that job. I have very little sympathy for his situation tbh and I hope the club feel the same. It is not Monte Carlo he’s from, it’s Ponte Carlo.

Agree with this. Some of these lads don’t know they are born.

I remember him moaning about getting a normal job when he was banned and how tough it was.

Seems to have a very short memory IF the rumours of him struggling with the commute is true.

Also it’s hardly like he is travelling at peak hours, certainly won’t be on his return home anyway.

100%. I worked in Reading for 2yrs whilst still living up here. Travelling up and down the M6 and one of M40/M1 every 4 days at stupid o’clock in the morning was tough going but it got me started in my job. The excuse of “I live in Pontefract” (if true) is a total non starter. It barely qualifies as an excuse.

We also have to factor in how we replace him. If Hardaker or his agent have any ideas they better share them. It’s no secret Hardaker wants to play fullback and that may be unlikely here but again it’s tough. The best solution for all parties is that he does the year with us. We did him a favour by offering him a route back in to the game and it should now be pay back.

I prefer Zak at centre than FB in all honesty, I think he’s more of a threat at centre. I don’t think we should be getting on our high horses about him allegedly eyeing up a move away yet. Nothings confirmed, and it’s all just rumour. I still fully expect Zak to be here in 2022. 2023 may be a different matter but at least then we’ve got a season to find 2 good centres.

It’s certainly been confirmed he’s not happy with the commute and I can’t see there being smoke without fire on the rumour. I think as an individual he’s far more threatening from fullback but he’s too one out. He’s a good centre but not a great one but he’s far better than our other options and any realistic replacements.

I think Hardakers options may be limited, Leeds and Cas fans don’t seem to want him back (could change their tunes after he signs) Huddersfield he possibly doesn’t get in as a centre and it would stunt the progress of Ashton Golding (who I don’t personally rate that highly) so that would leave for me Wakefield as the likeliest destination.
Also Pontefract to Wigan isn’t that bad, it’s not ideal but I’m not sure why he can’t rent another house if it’s that bad. It takes me around an hour and a half to get to work in the morning and I don’t mind it, I’m fully woke by the time I arrive.
For me Id like him to at least see out his contract but it would be great if he saw out his career here, we’ve stood by him in bad times and helped him and it might only be another 4 years.

Can we swap him for Wardle?

Each to their own but either way we agree he’s invaluable to this team. For my money he’s been superb since he signed and has really knuckled down and looks to be a leader amongst the team, I think at one point I said I’d be happy with him as a potential captain.

What I’m not going to do though is slate him for slatings sake. We did an awful lot for him and that cannot be underestimated but he’s also given us a lot too. I’m not saying that makes it even as I don’t think that balance could ever be even, but it goes a long way for some sympathy and understanding even if the commute is only Pontefract.

I’m not slating him in terms of his feelings. If it’s an issue the commute from Ponte and the it’s an issue living over here, then he has my sympathy to a point. Unfortunately I wouldn’t say that point includes being understanding of the club rolling over. I’d hold him to his contract, even if that means him having a tough 12 months of traffic jams. If the club just cave in and release him without compensation of some sort, it’s another president set, much like the one they set with the extended breaks for the two Aussie lads.

He’s an important player for us. I’d probably disagree that he’s been superb tbh. I think he’s been very good but has never quite hit is absolute best, other than the first month of this season but that’s more of a nod to how good he actually can be because he’s still played very well for us at times. My main issue is how do you replace him? We’ve no quota spots, so they’ll need to be homegrown and realistic options are very thin on the ground.

Have we not already possibly replaced him with Thornley? Him, Hankinson and Bibby fighting over the 3 centre spots?
We could also have quota spots if Clark and Tommy are not here next season which looks likely.
