There's a few options out there. Lachlan Lewis has just been sacked by the bulldogs and could be an ok long term option.

The problem is, we don't have any quota spots.

I would assume Clarke will be on the move. Seems pointless him being around and I'm sure he'd want to be somewhere where he can play every week.

As hopeful as the Miski signing seems to be from the highlights I have seen, im struggling to think of why we are using a quota spot on a championship winger......

That's two replies, with different options for who'd they wouldn't give a spot too.

I'd throw a 3rd one in and Isa is the weird one for me.

Smithies needs to really be given his spot + Hank is contracted for next year and will provide cover for the backs.

Either way, quota spots aren't infinite and the above points towards us not managing them that well.

I understand what you're saying but if we know Clarke is going then we still have a quota spot available, but not too much salary cap. We're not going to get 2 quota players with what we have left so if Miski is cheap, and our scouts think he's worth a shot, then I'm not too bothered about his quota status.

Providing Clarke is leaving.

Looking at the future, Isa, Field, French are all out of contract at the end of next season so we'll have 3 more spots available then.

He is awful as well. The attack wouldn't improve 1% with him at 6 or 7

The question is- what's the alternative?

Is he a better HB than Powell, because as far as I can see that's our backup HB for 2022.

I’d personally hope we sign nobody than sign the wrong player for anything over a 1 year deal.

Im comfortable with a punt on someone for a year but signing someone who we are not sure about simply because they may be available just creates a bigger headache than it does resolve it.

Normally I'd agree, but I just can't see how we can run with 2 HB's for next year?

I'd gamble on someone on a 2 year deal, knowing Field only has 12 months left & there's no ready option in the academy too. If we did sign someone for 2 years, we'd still be in this situation in 2022 i.e two senior HB options.

I imagine we'd have Field, Smith and Leuluai if we didn't sign anyone. Which doesn't fill me with joy by any means but I completely agree with Jonh that we should only sign someone if we feel they can make a real impact short and long term - not just sign someone to appease the fans and fill a gap.
