A lot can happen between now and the start of next season where Hardacre's playing for Wigan is concerned.

A discontented player because of extensive cross Pennines travel on the M62 is no good for any club!

From what I can see, it is just a matter of Yorkshire clubs facing the fact that they will have to pay a transfer fee and not think they will get him for nothing!

Any rumours as to where Kane Evans is going?

Zak's missus has chipped in, its going to get messy I think.

“Well said, some people have absolutely no idea what we go through as a family with partners in the sports industry or how rugby affects our whole life daily.

“People talk about being kind yet a lot of people share thoughts that are far from that, very often when having no clue on the FULL picture/TRUTH.”

Struggling to tell if this is real life or we’ve started our own soap opera

Is he going to be travelling at rush hour?

Pretty sure I once heard that training midweek tends to start around 7.30 in the morning.

So he sets off from Calder country at 6.30. That's not rush hour.

It's an early start, granted. But presumably he'll get an early finish to compensate.

I used to start at 5.30am, and wasn't earning even a 10th of what Hardaker's on.

The whole thing is bollox. Nobby did it. Kelvin Skerrett did it. Ellery did it. Gary Stephens did it. Maurice Bamford did it ...

Stop giving Zak credit. He's a typical millennial.

I think it's more the sports star aspect than being a millennial.

Most people commute to work. I know a guy who worked in Leeds but lived in Wigan. Ibused to commute to Leeds and London on a regular basis. Some people even work away 4 days a week.

Sports stars live in a bubble half the time (perhaps not so much rugby players) and are so distant from what is reality. People commute to work, it is what is.

Granted, if you didn't like the commute you would look for another job closer to home but if you didn't get one you'd just have to carry on.

Undoubtedly.

Personally and from a slightly cynical POV, I think IL could be pulling a play from the politician PR book here. He's endearing himself to certain sections of the fan base by now looking tough on players who want to leave. It's the 'tough on crime' approach that we see from politicians when there's a quick ratings boost to be had. Either that, or he's royally p!ssed off.

Before anyone starts, that's not a dig at him either. It's an observation based off trying to work out why he's chosen that topic to talk to the press? We've not had anything official on Thornley, we don't know if Bibby has re-signed etc but we've gone in hard on what's a personal issue.

Re: Rumours and signings v9 : Fri Oct 08, 2021 9:26 am
I worked in Hull for about a year when we were commissioning some new control systems at BP. I would leave early Monday morning stay Monday night come home Tuesday then Stay over on Wednesday. It was a horrible commute.

I've also worked al over Europe, USA and Africa. I know what it's like to be away from family and friends.

For Hardaker, he has made the decision to move back closer to home for family reasons so he has two choices, get on with it and make the commute or try and find a club closer to home.

He knows Wigans position in that they are wiling to let him go if they pay a fee to buy him out of his contract. I don't blame Wigan at all, they have invested a lot of time and money in him and to be fair he has given a good return on that investment.

I wouldn't block him going to Hull or HKR but would insist on a fee or player swap.

Is it any different to how someone's personal life is affected if they run their own business (you may know) or if they're management in a certain firm or industry?

Again - sports stars and their families have a very privileged life most of the time so I have very little sympathy when they cause issues from their own doing.

I think as much as we all don't like to admit it, sports people are different and, as such, you can't compare their situations to 'real life' situations. A lot of their freedom/choice of where they want to work is reduced Vs the normal working world.

There's plenty of people who commute to Leeds & further afield and I can see why they have little sympathy for ZH. Everyone is different however and what works for one, doesn't work for another. You hit the nail on the head with your last sentence - the majority can easily quit and leave, sports people can't. ZH, for all we know, might be happy to take a 20/30/40% pay cut to move. He might be happy to go to a Fev and a relegation battle, all simply because being in Ponty is right for him & his family. The difference is, his employer is blocking it (for right or wrong) and that's not something that happens in the real world, or not very often either.
