I just don’t understand the Thornley signing
We let him go because he wasn’t good enough and now 7 years later we resign him because he now has gained the attributes that we considered he never had????
Wierd.
Maybe the last hurrah of a KR signing?

That’s some Clinton Baptiste stuff right there!!!
I don’t go on the other site much, nor do I have a login but I have heard people on here mock his supposed inside knowledge and others back him up and say he’s in the know. That’s is 100% a post from someone who is a massive attention seeker and I would guess has zero knowledge of any goings on within the club.

Yeah, I actually don’t mind the Thornley signing and I do think there was/is potential for him to improve quite drastically, a 3 year deal though?hope the last year is in our favour, although I think that’s a bit too much.
The problem with Thornley is going to be that he’s not slotting into a settled/quality back line so it’s going to be harder for him to slot in and do well and unfortunately.

I used to watch Thornley in the reserves and he was a very promising player. I thought he did okay when he broke through, scored an important try for us in the low scoring challenge cup final win v Hull and probably could have gone to become a really good Wigan centre. I don't think his career has been back on track since he decided to leave, firstly to go to Union then again in 2014. Its a big gamble but at the same time he can be a decent player on his day.

Thornley can be part of a backline that wins SL, I’ve no doubt of that.

Is he a world beater? No, but he can be in a team that brings trophies.

His main asset is his go forward.

Over the last few years our biggest weakness is lack of go forward.

He is a signing that makes sense in my opinion and whilst not being a superstar brings what we need to the table.

Why did we let him go then in 2014?
Has he improved his go forward in the last 7 years? Do you mean go forward from our own 20 metre area? I want our forwards doing most of that work not our backs.
Personally I’d rather have a centre with pace and good hands
If he was that good I don’t understand why he was at Leyth I.e. a last minute signing by the promoted club.
If SW thought that he wasn’t good enough in 2014 (and he didn’t) he must have improved a heck of a lot.

There’s been a lot of debate about Thornley but ultimately he isn’t going to be the difference between winning anything or not. He may not even be in the first 17 and if he is, I think he’s decent enough to do the job we’ll ask of him and that will be to get us away from our end and chip in some returns at the other end. If we like it or not, I can see us going back to that game plan of the wingers/centres working us away from our line and he’ll be fine at that.

We’ve far bigger concerns than worrying about Thornley imo.

Did we "let him go" or did he "choose to go".

He went to RU IIRC so I doubt it was our choice.

I’m not overly concerned if he was just a squad or a reserve team player but if he’s a regular starter for the first team then we all know what type of rugby we will be playing. The problem I have is when he left he wasn’t considered good to play that type of role so why do they think he can do it now?

By the way I totally agree we have far bigger problems than Thornley.

I think I’m correct in saying that the first time he left he went to RU but the second time we released him
