Whilst I can sympathise with whatever is going on, he stayed over in Aus for too long last year, returned unfit which lead to him missing the first few games and could have been what caused his injury.

He’s been home since June now, imo because of what happened last season he should be back for day 1 of pre season but when you add in the fact his rehab is behind it highlights the point even more.

For me he should be back for day 1. I get there’s personal issues but everyone has them, we can’t just not turn up for work. That might sound harsh or unnecessary but given he has been at home since June, had a far too long a break last season which in all likelihood resulted in an injury, I’m amazed we’re letting it happen again.

I’m all for supporting players through tough periods, and we’ve done that and then some here. Would we be the same if it was Sam Powell? Jake Bibby? Some slammed Zak Hardaker for the slight suggestion of personal problem yet are okay with French.

The French situation is clearly sensitive and private to him. The lad seems a really decent person, so I back the club in giving him the time he needs. One thing I would love to see happen after things settle for the lad is for him to play some good rugby and hopefully stick around long term. He’s ideally suited to this league and would be a great weapon for us over the next few seasons. I presume there’s a lot of good feeling towards the club from French, given how understanding they’ve been of his situation back home and it would be nice to think that he’d like to repay that.

That's fair enough, but like any business - he has a role to play and there's more to it than just what works for French.

The club have been very accommodating with him and so they should. Letting him return late, letting him rehab at home are all huge steps. It's now however getting to the point where it's having a BIG impact on the club.

I'll happily support my team at work and I'll do the up most to accommodate and help them out. If those arrangements however are impacting the rest of the team + the wider business then there's conversations to be had. Just because he plays rugby, doesn't mean it's ant different.

We've got a fresh start here and everyone needs to be on the same journey. If they aren't that's fine (like you said family comes first), but it's time to acknowledge the club has a duty to more than just Bevan French.

Chap on Twitter claiming we have signed Cade Cust from Manley as a half back. His wiki shows him as a utility back and hooker. Pinch of salt for me but it’s a rumour board after all.

I’d much rather we kept Field than went for Cust if any of the rumours circulating are true.

Fully agree. I think field will be a good player personally but there is also the chance of French not coming back too

Is that based of a style thing i.e Cust looks similar (from the limited YouTube highlights I've seen) to Smith, or something else?

My only concern about that signing is the club talk about him being able to drop in at 9 too. Will that impact the development of O'Neil? He looks like a real prospect to me.
