Fingers crossed it’s nothing major. I’ll be honest here with Partington, I like him and I think he could have a long term future at the club but he’s been a couple of spots too high these past couple of years.

He is at a level that should be fighting out for a spot in the 17 but some weeks he’ll be 18th, 19th or 20th man and not the walk in he seems to have been at times. I’ve noted down my first 17 (with everyone fit) a few times and I’ve never had him in my first 17. He had always been just on the edge along with guys like KPP and Byrne.

Good analysis. Can’t think of a time over the past few years where he (and Smithies) didn’t get into the 17 when available. Even Shorrocks last year playing every game. This was down to just how poor Clubb, Clark and Bullock were.

Really hope Ellis and Mago are the business, meaning the the younger forwards don’t get too overplayed and flogged.

I agree. I started the Smithies and Partington thread earlier this year. Neither lack effort, commitment and a basic level of ability, I just don't see enough from them that they get in the pack I want to see, and one that will win trophies.

I hope they prove me wrong and I eat my words. I guess though they have both had Lam for 3 years, so it's only fair to see how they go this year under the new regime, they may be very different players.

I rate him and have stuck up for him on threads in the past but even I still only have him as a bench player/edge of the 17 type of guy or that’s what he should’ve been.

As with you guys I’m hoping Mago and Ellis get us to a point that only the best couple from guys like Smithies, Partington, Havard, Byrne and KPP get in the side. It won’t hurt them lads at all to have to fight their way in to the side.

The likes of Partington, Smithies, Byrne, Shorrocks didn’t have to play well to earn their place in the 17. They knew, as we did the alternatives were demonstrably worse. As above if Ellis and Mago are the business they’ll have to earn their shirt which can only be beneficial for them and everyone else.

They will be an improvement on Bulluck, Clarke & Clubb so that can only be a positive.

Suggest that until you have seen Mago and Ellis play at Wigan as well and as long as Clubb did, you reserve judgement!

Isn't the conversation about the relative strengths this year compared to last? What has Clubb's historical form got to do with anything? It only matters how he contributed on the field last year which was very little.

20 games in 2 years - And I'd have a bet he didn't play 480mins (That's less than 6 full games in those 2 years) in those 2years
And considering Lam's criminal under use of Clarke & other options such as Bullock (Whether they were the real deal or not) means we probably didn't get 1 x Props worth of time out of all 3 of those in the last 2 years.
