They might be too old now, but how have they kept them for so long?

Player has 5 good games for Wigan and he's off. Rushton never even played!

Good point. I'd lean on the side of injuries. Makinson, Percival and, in particular Lomax, have spent plenty of time on the physio table. Lomax seemed to be injured every week when he was young, but I'd happily be corrected on that one.

I posted earlier in the week they've lost Thompson , Fages and Bentley. Looks like Grace is leaving too. They aren't immune from it by any means. It's just plenty of their squad go to SL and for cap reasons instead of "testing themselves in the NRL".

I’ve not been able to go to the last couple of fans forums but I’ve watched them back and people have asked about us losing players and I can accept the answers given but I always hope somebody will ask your first question but nobody has. I’d love to know Lenagan and Rads thoughts as to how they can do it under the same salary cap.

I asked IL almost that exact question after the forum finished - his answer was basically that a few years ago Saints were looking at Wigan as the benchmark and its swings and roundabouts. He also made reference to Lachlan Coote leaving and that Saints are starting to experience the same problems fitting them all in.

I don't think any fan can complain about KPP in particular. He isn't even our player. We were the bigger fish in this country that brought him to SL and now an even bigger fish is taking him to the NRL. Increased financial power, a 17th NRL club and the success of English recruits will accentuate this problem over the coming years. For Wigan, I still think its possible that they have a reputation in Australia as being the gold standard over here (stemming from the glory years) which perhaps makes us more of a target.

Taking who is more successful at any one time out if it, it still does not answer why they’ve been able to keep everyone bar Luke Thompson away from the NRL, whilst we’ve lost too many to mention and still look likely to lose more than them going forward (going off rumours that knock about).

As EC suggested they would, I think that’s being quite diplomatic and not really answering the question of how they keep them. Looking at comparible players, why does Gildart go but Percival doesn’t? Why does Williams go but Lomax doesn’t? Why does Bateman go but Walmsley doesn’t? Why does Sutton go but Knowles doesn’t? Why does it seem inevitable that KPP and at some point Havard go but it doesn’t feel that way with their younger stars like Welsby and Dodd (they may go but it feels like we know ours will go).

I’d love to know the real answer. I’m not criticising us or throwing accusations at Saints and how they manage the cap but it doesn’t stack up when both clubs are bound by the same rules and the same overall limit.

We can and should complain about KPP because he is our player and is contracted until the end of the 2023 season.
I'm just hoping that things are quiet on this until after the CC final.
It's hard enough keeping hold of our talent when they are out of contract but an agent is taking the urine whilst a player is under contract and should be pursued through the courts. If he has signed a contract with the Knights then hopefully we have some source of litigation that we can also pursue against them too.

If KPP wants to go in 2024 good luck to the lad.
If he has "signed up" for 2023 sue him and his agent. Forget any "transfer fee" just go legal.

Of course this could be his agent spreading a rumour to look to significantly enhance his terms with Wigan when his contract is up for renewal. I'm ok with that as it's business. I may not particularly like the ethos but accept this type of "negotiating" is prevalent in many areas.
I believe that the agent was at the Magic Weekend in Brisbane so there could be some strength in this rumour.

I was posting on the assumption that KPP would leave at the end of next year not this.

Only way KPP leaves this time is with money coming our way. I hope to god we don’t come up with another ‘we’ve let him go early, so we get first refusal if he comes back’ deal. I could see KPP being a lad who will try the NRL and also try Union before his career is up, so we may as well just get the extra year out of him if they aren’t stumping up a fee.

If only the rumour mans line about a swap for Dom Young had any grain of truth in it. If that lad was homesick then he’d be in huge demand. I saw a clip of him chasing down and ankle tapping Cobbo, the Brisbane winger, from this morning and his pace is incredible for the size of him.

Saw that. It gives me great hope Saints are starting to make one or two iffy decisions. It’s not that it would be a weak spot as such having Lussick and Dwyer rotating but it’s one hell of a downgrade on James Roby, both in terms of quality but also influence.

Perhaps it’s just impossible to get someone in who would be anything approaching the class of Roby.

Lussick & Dwyer could well be the best option for them at the moment.

An area Wigan will also be looking at too I’d imagine, I’d love us to have an attacking type player at 9.
