I asked IL almost that exact question after the forum finished - his answer was basically that a few years ago Saints were looking at Wigan as the benchmark and its swings and roundabouts. He also made reference to Lachlan Coote leaving and that Saints are starting to experience the same problems fitting them all in.
I don't think any fan can complain about KPP in particular. He isn't even our player. We were the bigger fish in this country that brought him to SL and now an even bigger fish is taking him to the NRL. Increased financial power, a 17th NRL club and the success of English recruits will accentuate this problem over the coming years. For Wigan, I still think its possible that they have a reputation in Australia as being the gold standard over here (stemming from the glory years) which perhaps makes us more of a target.
We can and should complain about KPP because he is our player and is contracted until the end of the 2023 season.
I'm just hoping that things are quiet on this until after the CC final.
It's hard enough keeping hold of our talent when they are out of contract but an agent is taking the urine whilst a player is under contract and should be pursued through the courts. If he has signed a contract with the Knights then hopefully we have some source of litigation that we can also pursue against them too.
If KPP wants to go in 2024 good luck to the lad.
If he has "signed up" for 2023 sue him and his agent. Forget any "transfer fee" just go legal.
Of course this could be his agent spreading a rumour to look to significantly enhance his terms with Wigan when his contract is up for renewal. I'm ok with that as it's business. I may not particularly like the ethos but accept this type of "negotiating" is prevalent in many areas.
I believe that the agent was at the Magic Weekend in Brisbane so there could be some strength in this rumour.
