I’d be very happy with Cooper. We’re still shy of experienced forwards to lead the young lads IMO. A couple of years for Cooper would be handy. It would make me feel easier about potentially moving on another experienced head in Isa to free up a quota spot (not a rumour, just something it feels like we may need to do).
"Games as big as a grand finals define individuals and clubs. Remember we are only renting these shirts, I had my time in Pat Richards shirt. Ellery and Faz had there time in Sean's, Hampo and Radders in Sam's. You have to make a mark in these shirts that's still there the day you hand it over to someone else. So be aware for 80 minutes you are not only playing but also writing history and creating a legacy. How many people get to actually write history, not many. A big stage demands big players, be inspired. You play for Wigan, now go do it. Good luck." - Martin Offiah, 2010.
We will have a few players retained no doubt (Farrell, Powell... Etc).
However its looking like for the first time in a few years we aren't having players leaving in droves leaving us quite settled which is good news hopefully.
We seemed to leave things late last year and ended up coming up with the business. I dont think we need a major overhaul - just one or two quality outside backs, another prop perhaps (Cooper could be that).
Yeah. Big body, massive engine and a Bit of aggression
Heard also that one of ours going the other direction…
Which if true would be excellent business.
OP
I’d be very happy with cooper in and Partington out. I like Partington but we have plenty of his type of player. An experienced prop & leader like Cooper is a good fit for us for a year or 2. Shane we couldn’t pick up Hill last year though.
Cooper last year was one of the best props in the league, this year I think his performances have dropped but he’s probably still one of the best performing at Warrington. For me the only thing that puts me off is he will be 34 at the start of next season so I really wouldn’t want to commit to anything more than a year with another year in our favour but sometimes you have to take risks, I imagine both us and Warrington are kicking themselves on not offering Hill the longer deal he wanted this season as he’s performing to a great level regardless of his age and the league is hardly awash with top props so I’d be fairly happy. Partington out I think is a shame, he’s got a great mentality even if he can go too far sometimes and he’s a workhorse, he’s just currently a stone or two too light for me but if he can add muscle and fill out with age he has the potential to be a good prop imo but we probably can’t afford to wait that long. Byrne and Smithies kicking on this season has probably been the nail in the coffin for him.

I think the club have probably seen the error of their ways on regards to not getting Hill. That signing made sense for a number of reasons and was one we should have completed.
I genuinely think that will be the biggest challenge for the next season for all clubs. Can they keep their ST prices frozen to this years price, given their non-playing staff costs will have rocketed as they arent exempt from utilities increases etc, and retain the same number of sales. If they can manage that then fair play to them, but i have a feeling across the board that even if they can hold prices, that sales will be down
i'm fortunate, in that i'm not having to choose between heating the house or feeding my kids, but at the same time i am still having to look at what i am spending as my utilities bill went up by over 120%, so made a big hole in my finances. However, if prices increase again as planned i am certainly going to have to have a think about dropping my gym membership / ST renewal or a good drains up of my finances to balance the books
Specifically in regards to Wigan, i hope they can freeze prices and our fans stick with them, as all work and no social pleasures cant be good for anyone especially coming off the back of 2 crappy years with the pandemic
If i could just interject.... Try and keep your gym membership if possible. You need somewhere to go and vent your frustration and let off steam. Plus its good for your mental well being which we will all need come the autumn. I go to JD and its 22 quid a month and 24 hours.
