Comments on the Wire forum about him being a 'bad egg' etc... but, for the the most part, their fans dont seem to want him to leave and are commenting that hes the only one showing any commitment whatsoever at the moment

Yeah I read that too.

I'd love to know if him being a bad egg always been a thing, or is it just since Powell has arrived? We see it all the time with our players - the second they say they are leaving then the fans knock them down.

Briers obviously doesn’t subscribe to that otherwise Cooper would not be going to Wigan.

My statement doesn’t really fit your agenda as you don’t rate Powell so why would we be reluctant to release him through fear of strengthening another rival? If he’s poo then we would be weakening a rival if we released him and they took him on.

I know you’re tongue in cheek on this forum on the whole and Iv got to say I would have Powell in the bottom half of hookers in the league, but he seems a model professional, great injury record, great defence and a great bloke. I’d like more in attack but I would be looking at other players/positions to strengthen ahead of him.

We are not signing Lino. He is contracted to Trinity for 1.

We have Cust and Smith signed up and Tommy I am hearing is going round again.

Jon Wells mentioned that Wigan “may” look at him if they are replacing Tommy, and now it seems to be fact.

Miller is joining Cas though.

Why would we sign him?
Lino plays scrum half and our Harry is the form scrum half in SL.
The only scenario is that he is reserve to Cust and Smith with Tommy retiring.

Mason Lino would be an amazing replacement for Tommy if he retires, maybe even lined up for 2024? He looks a great player and probably the best place kicker in the league. Don’t see why we couldn’t run with Cust, Smith and Lino, Cust could rotate at 9 with Powell if they’re all fit.

Lino has looked superb at times and poor at others when I’ve seen him. I always worry about players like Lino, the type of guys who do well as the main man at a smaller club and then the step up is huge going to a Wigan, Leeds etc. Sometimes it isn’t that the club is too big but they go in there and they have guys at that club already who will be running the show and they then get a smaller part and cannot stand out as they have done before.

I wouldn’t be against Lino replacing Tommy in 2024 but it makes most sense that it isn’t for 2023. In an ideal world we get Cooper in, keep Tommy on for that year but maybe play him more as a rotation option, keep French and get a new centre in. Just a couple in and a couple out would be quite settled for us and we’re building nicely.
