It’s not bad business if you are winning trophies.
We may have won the Challenge Cup but we are still a bit behind Saints imo and potentially keeping French on big money as a makeshift winger/back up full back could cost us winning trophies as it will weaken other areas of the pitch (big need for a new centre next season)
But as has been said we can’t offer massive money to a winger.
Depends on what we do with the centre spot. If we decide to go with Halsall (something that I'm not averse too), why can't we go big on a winger? You then factor in his utility value and you can make a case for it.

If he stayed on his wing I'd agree, but having him float inside (essentially having two full backs) when we are in the attacking zone along with Field a lot of tries have been coming from this move. I do agree we need a centre (if KPP has left by than that is).
I didn't go to the Cas game as I was working and I've only seen the tries. Was Field on the pitch when Marshall chipped through for French to score? (ie French SHOULD have been on the right wing and not centre field), perfect example.

This is why I've been keen to see French to fullback and Field to stand off for a while - I think the only way French stays is if he knows he'll have a clear role in the spine of the team. Plus 6 is Field's favourite position (it will naturally take him some time to adjust to playing there for Wigan after spending half the year at full back).

Just a small matter of what to do with Cade Cust then?
Never mind that the way Peet wants to play may suit having Field at FB better etc. etc. - And as for Field saying he wants to be a 6 - I'm not sure that was a/ ever completely true, b/ still applies, and c/ we've seen plenty players "Think" they're 1 thing and ended up something else and excelled (i.e. Sam Tomkins).

Not sure what you mean? Field was at 6 the whole game and didn't come off - French was at FB the whole game hence why he was in the position he was to collect Marshall's kick and NOT on the right wing
I'm probably in a minority here but French on the Wing is fine by me and I suspect the coaching team would be also Whether it's what French wants, or Whether the club would/could pay what French wants for him to do the Wingers job is another matter
When Field signed his new contract it was always going to have a big impact somewhere down the line because what he'll be paid in 2023 onwards will be significantly greater than 21/22

Rugby league deserves to see both French and Field at full back every week.
Would be a shame for Bevan to a.) leave and b.) go to a rival SL club.
But as has been said we can’t offer massive money to a winger.
Our biggest ever signing was a winger. Will be very disappointed if he leaves, especially to another SL club.
Disappointed in what way? If it's just that he won't be at Wigan then yeah, we all have players that we are disappointed personally that they moved on but life moves on If it's in him as a Person then I'm not sure why??? If he's fulfilled his contract and done everything requested of him then I don't see why?
I hear everyone's rational arguments, but for me, Box Office players like French and Field come along once every 20 years. To have two of them in the team at the same time hasn't happened since the early '90s. It's a genuine throwback to an era when we were a team of exhilarating talents ... to which, some will remember, the crowds responded by literally pouring into Central Park.
Instead of agonising over whether or not to keep a player who 'doesn't have a position' anymore, I'd rather we spent time a) finding one quickly, and b) working out how best to publicise the incredible good fortune of having two almost unfeasibly exciting attackers in our current back division.
There should be no question of him being allowed to leave. If we ever want to get close to building a dynasty again, we should be fighting tooth and nail to keep talents like Bevan French.

Like I said, I had long days at work on Saturday & Sunday. Didn't see the line up and as yet still only seen a couple of the tries on twitter. Assumed Bevan was on the Wing, Field at FB as normal.
Disappointed as a player as I think he has massively contributed to that X factor in attack that we certainly didn't have last year under Lam.
It's a funny one Jon, I'm a big Connor fan and think he is an excellent SL player, but think his lack of pace will be his downfall in the NRL, too slow for FB and maybe stand off.
Maybe centre, but I know he isn't a fan of that position. Bennett is a big fan and he did well under him for GB at both 6 and centre, so maybe he will end up there.
Wouldn't be a bad move as not sure the Dolphins wouldn't have too much pressure for the first couple of seasons.
Good shout is the Dolphins to be fair.
When you look at the outside backs in the NRL they all have pace and athleticism.
I was at the Wakefield game yesterday and there were several occasions where he had an edge channel to exploit and failed to. Channels Field and French would have comfortably exposed as would probably 80% of the other SL fullbacks.
His injury was caused by him attempting to exploit a huge gap on the edge about 20 m out and was caught in a heavy gang tackle by 3 players.
His passing game is outstanding but I’m not sure it suits a 6 it’s more of a second pivot so would be a risk going with him as a main playmaker.
Biggest issue is his discipline twice yesterday he was pinged for gobbing off, both when Hull had the ball. It’s something he simply cannot shift out of his game and something he will get crucified for in the NRL.
