Yeah he potentially could. There's a few options that the club could take.

As a side note on the French situation, I see that Newcastle have just signed Gamble to play HB. That might confirm Ponga staying at 1. Not sure if that will have a knock-on effect for French, or not?

Surely Ponga is a full-back, and that is his best position? Can't see him relinquishing the Newcastle 1 jersey.

I agree, but there was talk however of him moving to 6 and French playing 1.
