From John i think. He has some sort of Wigan/Wakey alliance and the rumour is Wakey. He was bang on with Wardle (before Dan ) So he gas credit in the bank now Mago and Proctor make Wakey look a completely different side. Still weak in behind though.

If true, Mago will have gone from playing in The Allianz to the DW to Belle Vue. Thats like having a Bentley, swapping it for a Mercedes and then settling for a Rover.

Definitely didn’t come from me. First I saw if it was on the other forum.

As I said I’ve heard absolutely nothing from anyone however it is a rumour which keeps popping up on the forums and pub talk.

Mago, Lawrence, Taylor, Gale and Proctor all rumoured to be in talks in some circles however Applegarth stated yesterday he had no interest in Gale or Lawrence and obviously they have signed Proctor so who knows.

There's a good player in Mago. The only place I want him to go is an intensive fitness camp.

The obvious link to spend the money would be Thompson (with KPP taking the second row spot) but I just can’t see it. The lad was wearing a Saints top at the GF wasn’t he? And that hardly screams ‘I’m about to sign for Wigan’.

I could live with the blow of Bateman going and KPP being promoted to starting, if that was going to be a long term move but we’ll be back to square one next year when KPP goes. It’s frustrating that we always seem to take a step forward and then a couple back when it comes to building a team.

Thompson was wearing Saints training kit at the GF yes (won't let me quote NK for some reason)

He was also a guest of the club for the SF too and he was at Utd on Sunday with Makinson, Percival and Welsby. He is big mates with Makinson.

I've said this before on here but I was told that if he does come back to SL it would be to Wigan however given the above things may now have changed somewhat.

This could be one of those horrific things that come back to bite me but I would be amazed if Thompson ever came back to anyone but Saints. A lot was made of the supposed bad blood when he left as he refused the pay cut; but I was told it was quickly forgotten about and he left on relatively good terms. His Dad still sponsors the club and as Stu says, he's good mates with a lot of the squad.

As for Bateman and for what for my opinion is worth; as a Saints fan I will actually be disappointed if he goes as I think he is an expensive flop to be blunt. He came back in 2021 believing his own hype and I don't think he has delivered anywhere near marquee-status performances for you. To get a decent transfer fee and get him off the books is good business from Wigan, however I don't know how much of his salary is already accounted for with French's new deal. That's just speculation on my part and should Bateman stay I'll obviously be proven wrong. But I think when giving French a new deal they knew Bateman was off, with his Aussie partner wanting to go back with their new baby. So I don't know how much wiggle room Wigan will have for a replacement should Bateman go.
