I’d like Shorrocks to get a run there at some point.
Shorrocks isn’t good enough to be a first choice player in any position in a team that seriously wants to dominate for years. He’s nothing more than an average squad player at best.

There was some talk after the Saints and Wire games about where people thought he’d end up positionally. Some say loose forward, others second row but I think the reality is that if he’s at Wigan long term, it will always be in the role he’s filling at the moment and that is being a utility back up, covering 11,12,13, 6 and maybe even 9. I don’t think he has the natural attributes to excel in any one position but he’s got enough talent to never let you down wherever you put him and his workrate/commitment is unquestionable.

Yeah, Shorrocks is technically a great rugby player but lacks the physical attributes to be a top player, he’s too small and too slow. For me I see him as someone who doesn’t make our strongest 17 but can be called upon to cover in the back row and hooker/half if needed and won’t let you down.

I can’t agree with the last part of this NK. His effort is not in question, (like Powell) but his ability is extremely lacking. He has far more poor games than good games so to say he’ll never let you down is a stretch too far for me. He’s not good enough to hold down a place our strongest 17. He’s a squad player at best and there are others in front of him in all the positions he’s capable of playing.

I’d struggle to think of too many poor games he’s had. I didn’t think he had a great night at Hull but realistically, outside of this recent run of starts at 6, he’s never been a starter and had just played minutes here and there. In all of those he’s always been pretty solid, good workrate etc but I think we both agree, there isn’t enough there to command a regular start. Had Isa not been absent this Saturday, I don’t think I’d have picked Shorrocks tbh but he will play now. I’m happy to have his versatility in the 25 man squad, but I don’t see a time where he’d be in a first choice 17 when everyone is available.

We were much better when Shorrocks, rather than Cust, played at 6 against Leeds

We were for sure but I couldn’t make sense of any of that game, so I’ve no idea how much of it was down to that switch. What I would say, is that I wouldn’t be surprised if Shorrocks is at 6 again on Saturday. If that was an audition for a start by Cust, it didn’t go well.
