I look at him vs a fully fit Thornley and there isn’t a huge difference in quality. Whilst he isn't a "do it at all costs" signing I'd be disappointed if we don't keep King. He and Wardle could tie the centre positions up for a number of years and allow us to focus on fixing up the pack with props obviously needed and soon SRs with Isa and Faz close to retiring.

I think we hold the cards here.

If the stories of King's salary and his fallout with Powell are true then they'll want him off the cap and out the club. We just need to bide our time.

Just no panic on our side. We can look at other options with the cap space and move on if needed. Wire can look at other options but until they know he’s off the books, there’s not much they can do. Keeping a player their fans got stuck in to in that last game against us would be interesting.

I don’t dislike King but like yourself I wouldn’t pay silly wages for him. Once you get used to a high rate of pay it is very difficult to lower your expectations so King may well end up elsewhere if he is offered a better deal.

It will be interesting to how this develops come the end of the season.

I have always had a bit of a worry with King in terms of his record for having a good season, followed by a couple off based on when his contract is due up. He got a fantastic deal by all accounts last time and followed it up with a really poor season, compounded by him looking out of shape. He’s lost a lot of weight for this season, looks happy and is playing well but it’s another reason not to go big on his wages. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the clubs worked out another loan deal.

Marquee changes for 2024:

3 Marquee slots, as long as you have at least 1 Federation trained Marquee player

Club trained Marquee costs 50k
Federation trained Marquee costs 100k
Non Fed Marquee remains 150k

U21 players are now cap exempt up to 30k as well
