Re: Rumours and signings v9 : Mon Jul 31, 2023 7:37 am
I heard very early after he signed for Warrington that he regretted it and wanted to come to Wigan but he’s since signed a new contract. He joined Warrington for a reported extra £40k a year than what we offered and signed an extension after they won the league in April at what I can only assume is more money and Warrington are going to demand a hefty fee so I think he would be one to swerve, especially as he’s always likely to be wanting a move at the first sniff of a better deal based on what’s happened the last few years. On a playing note I do think he would be the perfect partner for Smith and he would only count £50k on the cap as a marquee player.

Couldn’t tell you but what relevance does that have?

Coote retired due to medical advice at a different club.

Because it is the same principle.

Exactly.

It's always a sad situation when a player has to retire like this, but it's also one Hull KR have managed to salvage some kind of positive from too.

Obviously you the number 1 priority is looking after Isa, but if there's a way to do that & do some good business, then we'd be stupid not to explore it.

The difference is Coote was advised to retire for the good of his long term health (too many concussions), Isa I am sure will be able to play again after his pec injury if he wants, it’s just likely it won’t be with ourselves if he does. It would be his choice like Cootes for him to retire and I imagine nobody at the club will be trying to force his hand nor I imagine they would have done the same at Hull KR.

Interesting Peet talking about different types of props in his post match interview. He said you need your solid props to start the game like Byrne and Ellis and you also need those who can come off the bench and make an impact.

I think in an ideal world we would recruit another 'impact prop' to replace Mago (assuming he leaves). Mago has been frustrating but it makes a hell of a difference when he comes on and does what he does well.

It might be asking a lot to recruit an impact prop as well as a second rower but then again there are a lot of potential departures: Dupree for Singleton, Keighran for King, Walters for KPP, Leeming for Powell. With Mago, Isa and Cust also supposedly going there is maybe space for more than one final signing.

Chan I would say is an impact prop, he is certainly used that way for Catalans, although I would imagine he could do more minutes if asked of him due to him being pretty lean, i also think Dupree and Cooper are more impact style than Havard, Byrne and Ellis.
One prop I saw mentioned about potentially being available was Ben Murdoch-Masiila, he will be 33 come the start of next season but he was one of the best impact props in the league when he was over here, not sure how he’s gone on his return to the NRL but of previous form he’d be a big upgrade on Mago.

Walters is on a better deal than KPP.

Not for me, defensively he is poor and, he doesn’t fit in with our current recruitment strategy.

Leeming will likely be on more than Powell and we don’t even know if Powell is leaving, Dupree will be on more than Singleton you would think and Chan is replacing Isa, Keighran maybe more than what we currently pay towards Kings wages too. I doubt we have much to play with and would think 1 more established signing and maybe a squad player at a push but a lot will be dependant on Powell leaving.

Gildart to Leigh official till end of season, I hope he can rebuild his career, he seems to have fallen off a cliff since his injuries
