I would imagine that Warrington would certainly consider doing so. One major advantage is that if they were willing to they would be negotiating "single-track" with Bateman. Still wouldn't come cheap but there would be a considerable discount on his salary against what you would pay if the fee had been set at £50k and say six clubs were negotiating over contract terms and consequently being traded-off against each other.

I would have been happy for Wigan to pay £200,000 when he was 18, English international and smashing the likes of Fui Fui Moi Moi. For an unproven prospect that much money just isn't worth it, I expect Warrington will be happy paying that figure though.

The big issue for me with Bateman if he's an out and out second row/loose forward is the same one I'd have if we'd have made a play for Ellis or made a play for Willie Manu and that's simply do we need to be paying big money out for back rowers?

I'd guess most people's answer is no and whilst we all live quality signings they need to be in the correct positions.

If Bateman could cut it as a top quality centre maybe we should look at it but as a backrower we should probably leave it.

Is he worth a big fee just to take the place of tuson,hughes?..hughes looks a real prospect and tuson never lets us down..i say let someone else pay the cash.

Totally agree. We've got very good cover in that area. That and the cost would make it a no-no for me.
