I think some of us are still brainwashed into thinking that each new season must be heralded by a clutch of 'name' signings, even if some of them appear to be made for the sake of it. Just because most other clubs do it doesn't mean that we should. In fact, we proved with Madge's first season, and thus far this season, that you don't need to splash big cash on names to make a decent fist of SL. Not that I don't advocate signing real stars if they're available, but bettering Hull's offer to a 33-year-old Willie Manu, which by their own admission would have made him the best paid player at the KC, would be a ridiculously pointless piece of business.
Exactly.
We bided our time when Maguire first came in and waited for the right opportunities. In his second season we brought in Finch, Hoffman and Lima and were able to do that by not panicking previous to that and wasting our cash on any old player just to get bodies in.
In the last off season I think they realised players of that quality weren't available but we needed to thicken out the squad so they signed young, hungry players with a point to prove.
Our recruitment policy is spot on and that's why we wouldn't dream of going for Manu.
