Why not? It doesn't follow because he's an ex-player he will be a poor conditioner any more than it does he would be good at the job.
Wasn't Perrillini from Saints supposed to be top notch in this department and also isn't Pongia supposed to be a good conditioner?
I have no idea what qualifications any of them have but I thought Perrillini was considered a big factor in Saints improved fitness and ability to play for 80 mins when he was there.
I am not saying Hampson should get the job but I thought it was actually what he did now as his career.

Hampson is no longer involved in conditioning he has a non rugby job, the Pongia "conditioner" thing comes from the fact he is was a personal trainer at the JJB in Wigan, ex player, personal trainer never done a days work as a conditioner in his life, but because he worked in a fitness related industry it was assumed he would make a good conditioner.
Appollo had a very good grounding went to university got his degree and earned his stripes.
Hampson is totally untested in the game of rugby league, and while a great player has nothing on his CV that would make me want him to be at Wigan.
There was of course his brief spell working with the International game, for Tony Smith his ex team mate, again smacking of jobs for the boys.
A conditioner will have more contact with the players than any other member of the coaching staff, it is crucial the right man is appointed if that man is to come from the UK i do not think he will come from rugby league circles, as there in my opinion is nobody up to it that would be available.
