I'm fascinated by all these rumours about RU converts returning.
If they prove to be nothing more than rumours, then fair enough. But if a few of these lads do come back, it makes the "union grass is greener" notion look even more like a myth.
It seems to me that, to date, of all the high profile departures, only Jason Robinson and Chris Ashton were a real success (and they were both wingers, so go figure). Faz did nothing as a Union player because his career was already over, Iestyn Harris came back a shadow of his former self, Henry Paul was described by Stuart Barnes as being "very disappointing" in Rugby Union, and we all know what happened to Chev Walker, Karl Pryce and Lee Smith - they seemed to have forgotten how to play any kind of rugby when they finally returned. I don't know how the Volcano and Hape went, but I didn't hear either of their names mentioned very often. If it's true that Joel is playing in the reserves at Sarries, how ridiculous is that? - a guy who was virtually guaranteed international status in RL.
I hope some of them do return. If so, it will be increasingly difficult for agents like Frank Endacott to keep telling their players that there is more of a future on the other side.
