Listening to the Ull FC game yesterday. Matty Russel had a wow of a game. Great on kick returns and chiming into the line providing offloads. A little unlucky with the bounce of a ball for the final London try, but other than that very, very good. FC's best player by all accounts.

I know his loan deal with them is up at the end of the month, but I see know reason why he can't stay there until season end. In saying that, reading the FC rumor thread, they'd more than love to keep him on a permanent basis as well as getting Finch off us.

Matty is great going forward, if he can improve his positional play, particularly when dealing with kicks he will be excellent. At the moment he has a tendancy to let the ball bounce instead of attacking it.

This did in all fairness cost us a try yesterday. But saying that he was probably our best player too. He has a lot going for him at just 18. I presume we will keep ahold of him too, for the rest of the season. Really cannot see him leaving Wigan. You should snap him up.

As for Finch. Quite a few rumours bouncing about. I am under the impression we will get him though.

Agreed Huddersfield should pay us to take him off their hands. A dreadful signing and I would like to think we are much better than that. Brown wasnt good enough when we had a mediocre team, he certainly isnt now.

When I hear the rumours flying around about Finch and now Lima possibly leaving at the end of the year and obviously us already losing Leuluai it brings it home how we need to make sure we start getting English players in our pivotal positions because to stay at the top we can't afford to keep having these rumours and departures each year.

Russell at 1 with Sam at 6 is looking more and more favourable at the minute. Hopefully we'll still have Finch to go in at 7 but if not then we'll have to sign a top class replacement. Id also be targeting Daryl Clark from Cas before Wire inevitably do. He's a class act at 9 but could also jump in the halfs or at loose forward and he'd open up a lot of options for us.

If Lima leaves then we might need to sign another prop depending on how some of the younger players develop. Prescott and Mossop are a great starting duo but their injury record is abysmal. Depth is good but quality is the most important thing. A workhorse player similar to Lima might be required.

As for the halves, we're in big trouble if Finch goes. Quality and consistency in key positions is vital for a team aiming for the top and to lose two players of the quality of Finch and Leuluai with very little quality available would be a real blow.

Tomkins back into the halves might be a necessity but even if Russell excels this year there's no guarantee that he won't have a bit of 'second season syndrome' like many good players have had.

We really needed one of Mellor or Powell to step up this year but injuries have made that pretty unlikely even if they were good enough but there's no guarantee that they will make it at Super League level at the moment.

Mind you, I'd rather switch Tomkins and O'Loughlin to the halves or throw Mellor or Powell in at the deep end than sign Kevin Brown!

Heard today we've signed Rangi Chase for next year, don't believe it myself though.

If Lima does go I'd look to sign another Kiwi prop to replace him, Sam McKendry anyone?
