If Cas are looking for a player swap and a fee then the large fee may well be payable.
Surely if Chase leaves them they are then only have Danny Orr as half back who can't have too many seasons left in him. Surely then Cas would be after a half back or two which may mean Mellor and/or Powell.
Wigan may feel it could be worth the gamble as Williams and Hampshire seems to be the future light in everyone's eyes.
Don't see the point in Cas allowing Chase to leave and bringing in a forward.
I thought Cas were signing Jamie Ellis from Hull so they'll already have a young halfback in the team.
Mellor is off contract so we can't really use him in the bargain because they can just offer him a contract anyway. With Powell I think it would be foolish of Wigan to let him go before he's even had the chance to play a competitive first team match. He was ahead of Mellor in the pecking order at the start of the year judging by the teams Wane picked for the friendlies and he was last years under 20's player of the year. With the uncertainty regarding halfbacks next year it would simply be daft for Wigan to let go of both Mellor and Powell with Finch and Leuluai leaving. Letting four halfbacks leave the club would just be crazy.
If we've got a young halfback familiar with the way the club stays then the club should make sure that he stays as it could be useful to have him around the team if the two new signings don't fit in straight away.
