While I'm glad to see Thornley back, he wasn't hitting the heights when he left us and since then he's not even been playing top-flight Rugby Union. He'll now have to knuckle down and work his way back up a tall pecking-order, and I doubt it will happen for him overnight. In the meantime, we'll have a slot to fill next year that was previously occupied by one of the best centres in Super League. In that respect, Lulia would seem like a decent option.

Good centres are thin on the ground everywhere at present, not just at Wigan. If we sign Lulia, and Thornley comes on in leaps and bounds, I for one will be well pleased - to have three decent lads vying for two positions, instead of two and then having to resort to the second rowers if one gets injured, is a good place to be.

I can assure you that Wane will not have signed Thornley purely because he's a Wiganer.

Leeds Rhinos were also chasing him and had he fulfilled his potential with Leeds it would have been utterly sickening to watch. Ian Lenagan said that Thornley was one of only two players he was gutted to see leave Wigan IIRC. He's a tremendous athlete & Phil Wilkinson tweeted he might be making his debut against Wakefield in place of Goulding.

If it's the case that he's already up to speed, I'll be delighted. But I'll remain skeptical until I see it.

Gasnier reckoned he was a good eight months behind his mates when he returned from RU, and Lee Smith still doesn't seem to have recovered after only being with them for one close-season.

A very high level of performance is now required to compete at SL level. I'd be surpised if IT was able to step back in so quickly, but I wouldn't be disappointed if he is.

If it was Hull they may have just swapped Mcgoldrick for Ellis until; the end of the season. I think it may be wigan have recalled Matty russell and hull need a full back maybe?
