If you want the facts then I suggest you look at the St Helens club's accounts over the past five years which have been supplied to Companies House.
Then count the number of millions of pounds lost over that period.
Also take into account that Mr McManus forecast further losses in the next financial year.
Once you have added those £ms of losses you may see the reason I feel that the St Helens club cannot afford a marquee signing and the massive salary the player would demand.
Allez, If you want facts they are there for you.

I don't see why even Saints could not afford one despite the losses. The first £100K would (according to Blake Solly) count on the salary cap so that part of the wage would be covered by the payments the clubs receive as a result of the TV deal. So to sign a player on £300K you have to raise £200K. If Saints are currently paying to the cap they are already finding £450K from somewhere as the current grant is £1.2m and doesn't cover the wage bill.

BTW £300K is equivalent to AUD $546K and I reckon you could entice some very good players over here for that kind of cash as it will be similar to what many are on in the NRL.

Just read an article with Tomkins from a NZ paper on the Warriors forum about how he does feel homesick at points but he won't be going back to Wigan 'yet'. He openly admits in the interview though that he's hoping to come back here in 2017 when his contract at the Warriors ends.

That's nice to hear. He'll only be about 28 then and will be in his prime. I'd love to think Lockers can carry on playing that long and Sam Tomkins can come back in and take over the leadership of the side.

He had a pretty good game against the Eels this morning. A few more of those and he'll settle down more and the thought of coming back to Wigan will disappear.

I personally believe we signed our next captain about a month ago in Joel. You can tell that by the leadership quotes that came out when we announced he'd come back.

Perfect replacement for Lockers imo.

Phil Clarke could shift a bit in his time.

But Colin could 'hand out the biff' a little better than his son.
