I'm still doubting this was a genuine bid and not a publicity stunt but even if it was it smacks of a team trying to run before they can walk. Salford signing 3 or 4 superstar players would be all well and good but if you blow your budget on them you'll leave yourselfs exposed in other areas IMO.
They need to take their time and build gradually. It's impossible in the age of the salary cap to turn a team from wooden spooner scrappers to top dogs in a few months. This project could take them ten years and they'd be well advised to look at Wire for some advice on how to do things. They've built their current squad over many years and have had to be patient to finally get to the top (of the league yet the big prize still hasn't been won).
If I we're Salford I'd be going out and targeting real solid signings and exciting youngsters rather then ready made superstars. Go and bid for guys like Kirmond, Huby, Bridge, Bateman, Daryl Clark, Dan Sarginson etc because they are realistic targets (although they'd still probably have to pay over the odds) to take the side up a level.
