Wigan can afford to keep him financially but not under the salary cap rules.
The whole game needs exceptions to the SC. Either Marquee players, club trained players etc.
Ridiculous that nothing is done when we are losing all this talent.

Surely you know all too well Ted that there is a lot in place already especially for home-grown talent and Internationals.

All we have to offer Burgess is money and a place at his hometown club. If he's not bothered about either of those then he will go and who can blame him?

that a bit of an overstatement. burgess is good, but to say he is "the most exciting young talent in ... 10 years" is pure nonsense.
Charnley ? Sam ? Clark ? Hall ? even Hardaker ! ... and thats just 10 secs thought

it is a great loss to Wigan and SL though, but at least he would be improving his game and potentially making England/GB a better prospect for the next World Cup (as opposed to taking the RU shilling)

Pure nonsense? Yeah thanks for that, I'm clearly clueless and deluded as your 10 seconds thought clearly puts my inferior thoughts and opinions well in their place.

It hasn't changed my opinion, I agree the rest of your list are all great players, my opinion is this guy can and most probably will turn out to be the best winger we've had since Robinson/Offiah. That's my opinion, pure nonsense or not.

Current thoughts - Mago out or get running up them plantations, get fit or get rid.
Maybe a back up halfback, someone with a bit of experience on a short term deal.
Big tall strong running second rower, like a McMeekin or Sironen type back rower.

Could have sworn I posted Charnley to Sarries at the start of the season, had no bites but now it's got momentum.

Hopefully he'll stop.

Another blow is we will not be able to resign Gareth Hock as backup whilst Flower is out, once again has changed his mind about who he will play for, he has decided to stay at Salford. Reported in the M.E.N tonight.

How is that a blow? It would never happen anyway regardless of whether he wanted to sign for us or not

Joe Burgess : Wed Oct 15, 2014 1:03 pm
From MEN yesterday -

"JOE Burgess, Wigan Warriors’ latest wing sensation, is understood to have signed for the Sydney Roosters for the 2016 season.

Burgess, 20 today, will honour his current contract by playing for Wigan next season but will then leave to play in Australia.

Reports from Sydney say an agreement has already been reached between his agent, the player and the two clubs for him to leave Wigan at the end of next season.

Roosters have been closely linked with Burgess for the past month and according to Sydney sources, he has been made an offer that was quite simply too good to refuse."

Burgess out Manfredi in, and a stronger international team.

It's a win win for me. Would be great to retain our players but it's simply not realistic to expect us to do so.

The way the Brits are improving in the NRL just shows that we can match it with the best in the world if you create the right environment. Aussie coaching English lads the NRL in my opinion is the only way these lads will ever reach their potential and the only way we will get close to the Australians at International level.

We need to accept we are now a feeder league and enjoy watching these players whilst we have them, and continue to enjoy watching them develop in our system until they are deemed good enough for a shot at the best rugby comp in the world.
