At the moment Roger Tuivasa Sheck and Daniel Tupou are the wingers. It is expected that RTS will move to full back next season. Nene MacDonald has quite a pedigree having represented Queensland at U 20 for the last two seasons and he made his NRL debut last season. By the time he gets over there in 2016 he could be third choice winger waiting for Origin weekends to get a game over Tupou.

This is a very big pond that Joe will be swimming in. Unlike Sam who was guaranteed a starting place at NZW Joe will have to prove himself.

Now I'm not saying he won't but surely it would be better to go over at age 23/24 as the number one English winger having won something with Wigan.

He has only had one season and is unlikely to figure in the 4 Nations. The game is littered with players who struggled in their second season. This is FAR TOO early for Joe IMHO.

So if it doesn't work out for Joe he'll come back and play SL. Not the end of the world.

Two benefits, none of which benefit Wigan unless Wigan have him on some deal where if he comes back he comes back to Wigan.

Benefits

1)Improves the national side.
2) Doesn't go to Union.

Which are about the only straws we can grasp at these days. However, if Sam comes home at some point - as the rumourists were insisting he would a few months ago - I may start to believe that these talents aren't entirely lost to us.

Where did I say that it was?

I think that it might be a problem for Joe though. I think he has been badly advised.

Firstly he may not get in the Roosters team and secondly the world moves on. Manfredi or whoever we get in his place may take his chance with both hands. The grass isn't always greener is it? As Sam, Lee Mossop and HH have found out this season for rather different reasons.

Realistically Joe will find himself a SL club. Mossop was plagued with shoulder injuries. HH is still getting regular first team games at the club of his choosing as is Sam.

On the Roosters Forum (Chookpen) it says that Sheck is expected to play Fullback with Tuopou on one wing and Joe on the other it goes on to say that Joe is on 11k in GB with 80/90k offered in Aus. I don't know which currency they are talking about but if it is the same in both cases it equals the same difference. They also say compared with other contracts in Aus it is no big deal.
Another thing is they do not seem to have there wingers high in the pecking order of importance, they think a realy good centre, halfback or blockbusting forward ( has one Aussie poster said) is worth far more than any winger, as long as a winger can run fast catch a ball and get it over the line they will do. They seem to think wingers are 10 a penny over there and are easy to come buy.

IMO the RFL should have the courage to either up the cap and/or introduce the marquee player rule. Never mind what the chairmen, including ours, want. They are all self interested, it should be for the RFL to make decisions in the best interests of the sport.

Yes I get this impression from watching the NRL on Premier. Every club seems to have 2 wingers who are tall, quick and powerful. Maybe that's why there has been no interest in Ryan Hall all these years. They just don't need our wingers. Forwards are a different matter.

Frankly I think going over at age 20/21 is a big risk. I know people say that he can get a Super League club easily, but there is a cautionary tale in what happened to Richie Mathers at Gold Coast and Jordan Tansey at the Roosters. They only played a handful of games between them and were never the same when they came back. We like to joke about Mathers, but he was a very useful player at Leeds.
