I don’t know. Maybe History wasn’t his strong suit at school. To be the greatest you need to achieve something that no other club/person has done. First of all a team would need to win all trophies on offer in one season - that can’t happen. Secondly, Saints would need to beat the Aussies - they didn’t have the chance to do that to be fair. Thirdly, they need to consistently win all the trophies on offer over a period of years- they haven’t done so, only one Challenge Cup during that period. The greatest team is Wigan’s 1994/95 when they beat all comers when winning 5 trophies. That is ultra difficult because you have to peak at multiple times throughout the year not once. Now, if Welsby is claiming that if Saints win on Saturday makes them the most successful SL club (not team) in the last 26 years then I would have had no quibble with that. But that is not what has been quoted.
