Good. From 10 yards out he's a world beater, give him the ball in his own half with a clear run to the line and it wouldn't be a guaranteed finish.

Makinson is a quality finisher and he just has a running style that doesn't look particularly fast but he's deceptively quick and his finishing is exceptional.

Sounds like a break up, with both parties telling their friends they were the ones who did the dumping I've never seen anything to suggest T Mak wants out so I'm happy he's staying!

On the point about his long range capabilities, you'll be hard pushed to find any Saints player with more than a couple of long range efforts in the last few years, it's simply not been our style, and only really go wide when we can get within 10 of the line. T Mak is one of the major reasons we've been successful, and one of the top teams in converting position into points.

In which case we're all happy. Not knocking the lad, but you won't find many Wigan fans upset that he's not coming here. Most of us will be glad to see Manfredi replace Budge, and if Charnley is off somewhere we'll be looking for a replacement of a similar ilk.

Was this ever really a go-er? I can't think of many (if any) examples of established first team players transferring between two top SL sides. The only ones I can think of are Peacock and Pryce leaving Bradford for Leeds and Saints respectively in 2006 but I think that was more to do with Bradford's finances, which presumably doesn't apply to Saints here. Regardless I wouldn't want us to go after Makinson, purely because of the cap space he would take up when we have a very talented reserve winger in Manfredi, and may need to sign a replacement full back if Hampshire doesn't start looking more steady.
