I thought it was because Mo wouldnt let them use CP when they had work done at Springfield park which caused the Latics plenty of issues.
Don't think it was work, think they wanted to use it for a League cup Qtr Final game versus Liverpool in the Late 80's?
There was the interview thing also
End of the day at various points each club has been on the Up or on the way down at various times, and neither has had major support off the other.
I hope Latics survive, the Town needs both and certainly will Post Covid when opposing fans boost the economy, Each club needs the other more than they'd care to admit.
I have very good friends that were made redundant by this issue and I'm gutted for them
Wigan Rugby fans would certainly not be happy if the state of the ground got significantly worse, although the pitch issue is slightly less important for us it will certainly not benefit us playing on pitches that aren't having Hundreds of Thousands a year spent on it rather than a Few quid.
I'm indifferent to them as a club/sport - I've got past the Bandwagon days of the Mid 00's up to around 2013 when suddenly they had 15/20,000 Lifelong supporters and not the 2/3k that used to actually turn up giving me stick about being in there stadium.
Water under the bridge now as far as I'm concerned.
I'm a little surprised that the Leneghan Bid didn't take off, but if he couldn't find support from within the town (Whelan/Ainscough etc.) then it's certainly not something IMO that he could do on his own (Bit without knowing who was or wasn't in it with him it's hard to say).
I think it is fair to say that any football club IFL was involved in would have to "Cut it's cloth" and given the current status of their income/outgoings their current level is closer to bottom of 2nd division as it is championship, and maybe the Administrators think that other bids, with more capital to invest provide a better chance for the club to move forward long term (Rather than IFL buying them for £1 and their future be Lower leagues living by their means).
