A purple patch inspired on his home ground by man of the match WIGAN CAPTAIN Sean O’Loughlin produced three tries in an eight-minute spell just before half-time, and the GB Lions added two more after the break to maintain Smith’s 100 per cent record as Great Britain
coach.

Sat 27th April 2002 St Helens 12 Wigan 21 Edinburgh - Sat 4th May 2002 Celtic 2 Rangers 3 Glasgow (Carlsberg dont do weeks, but if they did.....)

Thought it looked a bit daft myself - 20 kids at the front waving scarves and bouncing while the rest - who looked like you supported a different team due to seperation between groups - sat there clapping politely.

Cracking noise though but you need to get another song , that one gets tedious after 60 mins ;)

To be fair Daz it wasnt 20, more like 45-50 and not all 'kids' as you put it...

im sure you agree it made a great atmosphere in a stadium which has only had a decent atmosphere this year when sheff utd and sheff wed have came to play town...

ive seen a better atmosphere in Deighton WMC than i saw in the kilner bank stand tonight mate

Anyone else get a PM about the Brigantes? Seems like you cant have an opinion on them unless its positive or offer any constructive criticism on how they can become more inclusive and get the support of all Wigan fans. Nice.

Why didn't the group initially come up with a name/brand that ties in with the concept of the 18th man? The 18ers (or something less crap than that)? That way there wouldn't be this fissure between fans on the one hand and ultras on the other.

Largely irrelevant what they called themselves or if they gave themselves a name at all. There'll always be someone to complain about them and what they do. Rugby fans, and it's not unique to Wigan, are the biggest moaners around. Like someone else said earlier, if this is the only thing we've got to moan about then things must be going well on the playing side.

Re: Ultras or Brigantes??? : Sat May 19, 2012 2:01 pm
Just to add to the scarf debate .. My new scarf says CHERRY AND WHITE ARMY on one side and BRIGANTES on the other.. I'm not a fan of the name Ultra's as that makes me think football hooligan. But I do like the idea they have at creating an atmosphere during a game. I do not want to sit at a game in silence. I could do that at home

Great atmosphere last night, and my Brigantes is the red and white bar with the quality badge on, lots of people like that badge, can any more of them be manufactured.

Speaking honestly, it's this sort of dismissive and insulting attitude that I find to be a problem. I could expand on the initial reason I gave as to why the name isn't "irrelevant" (referring to reasoning given by the Brigantes themselves as well as my own reasoning) but you give the impression that you aren't up for the discussion. In fact, most discussions relating to the Brigantes--even ones conducted tactfully and couched in positive comments--are responded to as though they are off-limits. I said in my response to the PM I received that if some fans are feeling alienated by what they describe as elitist and divisive attitudes or practices then this should be addressed properly. Those reservations shouldn't just be dismissed or shouted down; that only exacerbates feelings of dissonance between what is essentially one set of fans--Wigan fans--who should really feel a sense of solidarity and community between themselves, rather than antagonism.

Under18ers would be more apt.

Pointless asking questions on here.
They apparently have a rule not to post on here.

Before I recieve my usual snotty, almost offensive and abusive PM, I'm NOT slagging on that opening 2 sentences.
Just informing the masses who have questions.
