If we'd been relegated, it would have been catastrophic on so many levels - maybe, in some cases, more seriously than simply financial.
Relegation would have inevitably seen a big drop in our crowds. And just at the time when there were repeated calls by the football clique for us to be shown the door. The Latics pitch was a constant thorn in everyone's side. There was no sign then of us signing a 50-year lease to stay at the JJB. I don't like to think what might have happened if we'd been reduced to the level of NL1 nonentities.
There was so much at stake that season that I still get the chills thinking about it.
