What a terrible move its been for Hansen. Could've had his testimonial last year at Wigan, instead he is stuck in that mess. Do we need him back? He wouldn't get in over Bateman, Farrell or Tomkins. I guess it all depends on if SOL carries on. If we have signed Hansen I would expect lockers to move on to the coaching staff.

I'd take him back if the deal was right for the club.

For me he's superior to Partick and offers more that Connor Farrell.

Undoubtedly he wouldn't get into our current backrow but (& this is where the right deal for Wigan comes into play) he'd be an excellent squad player. Joel and Faz have been hit and miss and Lockers has been injured as well - HH would let us bring in genuine quality, experience and would add serious depth/competition.

Depends what money he's looking for.

I really think we have missed the brutal defense offered by HH. Bateman is more than capable of snotting an attacker, however Faz (whilst technically a very good defender) does not offer anywhere near the same level of aggression.

Get him back, Bateman to 13 and the back row is set. Concentrate on getting some bookends recruited

I've always maintained that Hansen would end up as a prop. He'd probably do a very good job there if he bulked up.

He certainly offers a few different options.

I'd be tempted to offer him a there year deal with the third being his testimonial.

At least that way he'll make some money and I doubt many would begrudge him a testimonial year for what would be 13 years of service.

surely we'd have to throw a bit of money at Salford to get him out of his Salford contract, correct me if I'm wrong? I'd be slightly more sceptical, mossop has proved to be an ineffective re-signing. will the same bullet hit twice if we were to re-sign Hansen?

don't get me wrong, on his wigan form, I'd have him back in a heartbeat for his effortless and endless defense alone.

I agree he could but again it comes down to natural size upfront. If we had 2 or 3 big units performing he would compliment them very well, we however have 1 big unit in Clubb and no others.

H would do the Flower role very well the issue is however we have Flower.

I wouldn't be against his return but at this stage it would have to be as an out and out backrow forward, however reading the article Patterson is also available and I would much rather have him in our pack than H as he has the natural size and direct running along with a ball handling ability that would be a real asset to our team.

It's deceptive and not as clear cut as all eggs in one basket;

1- Sam Tomkins is a once in a generation type player. I'd argue he's the single most talented player to ever come out of our academy. We are rightly, imo, going to lean heavily on him as he is that good. There's nothing wrong with that.

2- We've also extended a few contracts (Faz, Gelling & Mcilroum)

3- Patrick and Hughes technically only contribute as one wage and not two.

Even if the 5 players above earned £25k each that's a total of £125k in wage savings (you'd expect Bowen and Thornley to be on more btw). Sam is our marquee signing so he's only offsetting £100k against the cap.

That's leaves a chunk of leftover cash + Pettybournes wages so it's not like all of our money has gone simply in Sam.
