All I am saying is that why do RL fans constantly say its the greatest game but don't buy the tickets, its a problem with more than just this one game. As for people saying they are not buying a ticket, I havn't heard many people say that but a lot more people went to the GF so why are they not willing to part with the cash for this game? Maybe because people have a right to Spend their money how they feel best that they need to? Maybe if Wigan had been Allowed to promote this event they "May" have priced it differently/Better? Maybe they see the G/F against Saints as a Bigger game than this? Quick Question, how many casual fans are you dragging along to this game to Bump up the crowd? I am certainly not 'crying my eyes out' but as a fan of the club I a quite concerned we can't sell-out for a game this big, I am shocked you don't seem all that bothered with an ok crowd. Your Quite concerned? I think you may need to get a Better perspective on things in life you should be "Concerned" about. Ok crowd? We sell 23k and it'll be the biggest crowd (Bar Leeds which I think i've made my position clear on) for the other 10 WCC's since Manly 87! The reason I said we can't make a call on it untill the day is because we don't know how many have been sold, what we do know is that it is not a sell-out, it is currently around 2,500 from a sell-out. It could be more than that as we don't know what the RFL have sold. We definantly know it isn't less than that.
I don't know how I'll sleep tonight worried about How many the RFL may or may not have sold! Or I could wait till the day and see how many actually go and concern myself with the Game itself until then?
I didn't go to every game last year I fail to see how that makes a difference in what has been said. Possibly because you were working? Couldn't afford it? Had other commitments? Maybe some people have the same problems for this game? I'm guessing you don't have to worry about what time the kids go to bed but maybe that's another thing you could think about for families? I also fail to see how you can be happy with the crowd so far after we took many more than that to OT, this game is on our doorstep.
You also "Fail to see how I can be Happy with the crowd so far etc" Well lets just say after seeing 4k/5k at Central Park and then seeing the Greatest Rugby teams I have ever seen attract Average gates less than what the club is getting today and 2 WCC's, 1 at Central Park with 17k on the other at Anfield that just broke 20k, then I'll be ok with what the club are currently doing bearing in mind they've been hamstrung for this event as it hasn't been theirs to Promote etc in the first place?
Finally, yes the attitude of RL fans is poor, if the fans bought into the RFL's concepts more than the game would be much better off, I suppose the answer is finding why they don't buy into it. I wish they did, afterall I believe it is the greatest game, I am sure that is one thing we can agree on. Good luck with finding that answer, I suspect you'll be searching for a long time! But I suggest you try and preach to those not going rather than worrying about telling people how brassed off you are with the rest of the World for not watching the Greatest Game?
Months back everyone on these boards was saying how great it will be to have all four sides of the ground full on wiganers, this is not looking likely at all (however I would love to be proved wrong and for a massive surge in ticket sales to occur. Would you not prefer if this was the case? Do you not want to see us sell-out? I can't grasp where you are coming from.
Maybe you've learned a lesson then, shouting about how good it will be on an Internet Forum and then actually making it happen and selling 25,000 tickets are 2 totally different things! I'd like a little bet that it was a lot of the younger element that were taking a 25k crowd for granted more than the older ones? Would I prefer it to Sell out? Of course, Where have I said I wouldn't? If our ground held 22k and we sold 22k for a "Sell out" would that make you feel better? Sounds like you should get a job at the RFL To be honest I can't grasp "where your coming from" , worrying about Why people you don't even know have or haven't bought tickets? I believe such a big game should sell-out seeing as it is at home. I can't understand why you would believe any differently.
Maybe because other people have different views on the subject? As I said earlier if the ground was a 22k and we sold 22k would you be Happy? If we sold 25k but it held say 27,500 would you then be Unhappy?
So true of our fans, the last derby at saints saw tickets go on sale over a month before, people were trying to get tickets on here the day before
Some people have to budget weekly and can only pay game by game (especially if going as a family). I'm telling you now that some regulars still won't have bought tickets for Sunday due to:
Christmas. Season Ticket Purchase. Cardiff weekend. Bradford Game.
Wait for pay day on Thursday/Friday - buy ticket Friday.
I never said anything of the sort - it's pisspoor we haven't sold out yet and don't look to at the moment. We took a lot more to OT than 25k or 30k as well.
And yet Leeds average crowd is similar to ours - the core support should sell out a 25,000 ground with all the neutrals. At the moment that doesn't look to be the case.
People are looking to blame the RFL for something that we should be looking closer to home about.
Yes you did
How many did we take to Old Trafford for the GF? Many more than it would take to fill the DW. How much did people pay for their tickets then? More than they need to for the WCC, add in the neutrals that will be there and the fact we still haven't sold out (we may do but I doubt it) is really poor.
As for taking more than 30k, I'd like to see any official figures you have?
On your point about Leeds crowd being similar to ours, I suppose that % wise then the Wigan public support their club more than Leeds RL then bearing in mind the respective Sizes of the 2 x places? And if we can attract say 5k above our Average out of the remaining 150k people in Wigan is that Worse/Better than Leeds taking 15k extra out of the remaining 700k?
I'm also pretty sure that we won't see as many "Neutrals" for this game as others have seen on previous occasions for various reasons.
Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good - sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league - Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate - the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever - Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go - Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know - FIOS
I have invited loads of people, meant to be having family coming from Boston to attend the game, it shouldn't need this.
I am concerned in the context of being a RL fan, of course I have other things I am concerned about, this however is a RL message board and not a life clinic
I am not losing sleep, stop making things up..... you make out that this is ending my life...
Yes all of those reasons but are you seriously telling me that 15k extra wiganer who were at OT are covered by all of those reasons. I am pretty sure they will be sat at home watching on tele, I am just saying it is a shame.
I am well aware of these other figures, still means nothing though that was years ago. Strange you are bringing so many other things into this when all I am talking about is that its a shame this game isn't sold out....
You have missed the point in regards to capacity, I believe we should be selling at least 30k for this game with so many going to OT, why wouldn't they want to come to this game as well. So yes I would be disapointed with 25k if it held 27k. When a game sells out it is normally the case that other people couldn't get tickets.
Anyway, talking about making a mountain out of a mole hill...... again all I am saying is that I would love the game to sell-out and that I am disapointed it hasn't already. You have managed to turn this into me not being concerned about other areas in my life and getting a job at the RFL. Amazing
Just to prove how passionate I am about getting bums on seats if you ever doubted this.... the degree I am doing is sports marketing. If all goes to plan I will get work experience at one of the clubs in Sydney and come back working for Wigan and fill the stadium every week, would that be ok for you
I'd also just like to point that the town has been affected badly by the economy downturn and as such there are quite a large number of families who are STILL finding themselves with a lot less disposable income.
Faced with the choice of missing the game live and watching on SKY round your mates house against going to the game but risking the mis-payment of bills is a pretty easy one to make when you're stuck in that situation.
For one person £40 gets you 4 x family deal tickets in the North Stand, to the next person.....it's last months Gas Bill.

I completely accept that but it does not give the lone reason for 15k wiganers who attended the GF not going.

Que sera sera, Whatever will be will be We'll pack out the JJB Que sera sera!
As Que sera sera, After Work experience in Sydney He sells out the JJB, OdemWingie!
Altogether now!
On a serious note, All I am saying is in relative terms some people, myself included, taking many, many things into account may say that 20k plus is a pretty good crowd for a Sunday Evening, RFL, Expensive to some, event?
You thought we would sell out no problem, we haven't, "Yet". Let's wait before we spread doom & gloom across the board, I'm not sure many other clubs would be selling 2ok plus tickets in a Town our size and calling it "mickey Poor"?
Another POV that was put to me about this was "What if the RFL had their way and they'd taken it somewhere else with more lets say "Corporate" adavantages" say COM stadium or maybe even REEBOK with it's Hotel etc and better transport Network". More corporate but less Wiganners? Which would be better?
I completely accept that but it does not give the lone reason for 15k wiganers who attended the GF not going.
No but it could be one of many reasons.
Here's another.
How many young kids went to grand final on a Saturday, but won;t be going to the WCC due to the fact it's played at 7.15pm on a Sunday, with the next day being a school night??
Don't forget our league games are played at 8pm on Friday night's when the younger kids don't have to be at school.
Again, just another ONE reason......but all these variations will total up!!!
Not all 15k extra fans from the Grand Final will just be thinking....'fook it, can't be arsed'...!!

I am chilled....
That is a quality song!!! You should write some more! I agree and I had an orginal pessimistic view when the time and prices were announced, but you can't escape the fact that so many people from Wigan attended the GF.
True I am not sure any other teams could sell so many at this price other than Leeds. I doubt even saints would get another 23k crowd at this price.
I would love for the RFL to show some ambition and move it to Eastlands, they woulld actually need to spend some money to gain some though and I don't think they would be willing to risk this.
In relation to your next post I spoke to IL about this topic after the last fans forum in quite a lengthy conversation so I am sure I will get my chance to ask in person at some point. I was not holding back on any of the questions I asked last time so I am sure I could get some answers. As an example I ask him if he was serious about his plans for a 20k average and what plans and figures he has in place to achieve this, what money would be spent to achieve this and how many season tickets would we need to sell etc.
Your best point is that we should really wait untill the night... I hope I come on here blushing because the game has sold out... however I can't see it...
One thing is for sure, whoever is not in attendance will miss out on he best RL ultras display in the history of the sport
