Commenting on the signing Leeds Rhinos Chief Executive Gary Hetherington said, "We are delighted to have secured a player of the quality of Brett Ferres to compliment our squad for next season. Brett knows a lot of our players from the England side and has known Carl Ablett since the pair were teenagers and toured Australia with the England Academy. They know Brett and they are looking forward to having him within our group.

Is Ablett married?

Castleford-born forward Ferres said: "I would like to thank Gary Hetherington and Brian McDermott for making this move possible. The Rhinos are a fantastic organisation and I am looking forward to being part of the squad next season. The last year has seen plenty of ups and downs for me however this move gives me an opportunity to finally look forward to the future with confidence and be part of something special here at the Rhinos."

Not that bothered Ferres hasn't signed for us to be honest. We have 2 second rowers at the club that are younger and as good as him anyway. Plus Joel Tomkins :D

I find it funny that Leeds are loving him now though, if he'd signed for us the jokes and mockery would be rife...

"Games as big as a grand finals define individuals and clubs. Remember we are only renting these shirts, I had my time in Pat Richards shirt. Ellery and Faz had there time in Sean's, Hampo and Radders in Sam's. You have to make a mark in these shirts that's still there the day you hand it over to someone else. So be aware for 80 minutes you are not only playing but also writing history and creating a legacy. How many people get to actually write history, not many. A big stage demands big players, be inspired. You play for Wigan, now go do it. Good luck." - Martin Offiah, 2010.

It's so boring being a Wigan fan nowadays when it comes to rumours etc. Damn you IL & SW for making us such a stable club with class youth haha.

Bring back the roll of a dice days under Uncle Mo, we'd have had "superstars" like Willie Mason etc under him ha

In an odd way I actually do miss those days! I remember being sure we would win something in '05 when we added big name signings David Vaealiki, Dennis Moran, Jerry Seuseu and Luke Davico to the squad that had made the challenge cup final the previous year. Davico's career ended with his first drive of pre-season and the rest totally flopped, Millward became our 5th coach in 4 years, we got beat by a combined 145-0 within a week by Leeds and Saints and finished 7th.

So what did we do the following year? Bring in Calderwood, Richards, Logan, Higham, Paleaesina and Fletcher, most of them flopped (at least during that season), , signed five players from outside Super League mid-season, nearly got relegated, sacked another coach half way through the season, signed Fielden and Dobson, ended up storming it at the end and finishing 8th. The ups and downs were brilliant!

By any standards that was a pretty astonishing season. The first time since I was a kid that I actually lost sleep over my beloved Wigan RL.

The Wigan fans were awesome too. No one could ever accuse the Cherry and White army of being glory-hunters the way they turned out to support a team battling relegation.
