It's also a case of not just reputation but actually looking at them now and evaluating there current form, and seeing whether that equates to the wage packet that there reputation has probably increased and whether they are still worth it.
It is a combination of personality, ability and style. In no other walk of life do you get a top job off track record, why should you in rugby league? It is often not enough as has been highlighted above see many of our big name signings and coaches.

Yet, if (Maurice/IL) got/gets it wrong, they get lambasted from all angles by fans, its a very difficult job, and hindsight is a wonderful thing !!

So true sadly we at Wigan have personal experience of this.

I agree but failing to learn from your errors is indeffencable and in the end cost Mo and Whelan, lets hope IFL does not suffer the same fate as if he does we could be up a certain creak without a paddle.
I may come across as a complete idiot, but i see it as
if you have two good props (Feka & Coley) who know how to hit the line and offload, your have a great 9 (Tommy) great 6/7 (Tomkins and new signing) and a great FB (new signing) in the area of the offload, you will always have a great chance of scoring or making big yards.
Fielden and Prescott/O'Carroll to bash the people they've been set to target that match. Coley and Feka to target the people they are most likely to gain the offload opportunity against, pretty basic rugby really, but it works.
Stains = Graham/Fa'asavalu - offload - Cunningham - great pass to L. Pryce/Wellens = try/big yards
Leeds = Peacock/Leuluai - offload - Diskin - great pass to Burrows - great support play off Webb/Mcguire = try/metres.
2 great props + great FB + good 6 and great 7 = great play down the middle in attack. We do not have that at all, our support play is very poor most of the time.
Fielden - Could do better in attack, but doesn't get put on his back alot, drops to knees ready for the playof the ball, great in defence.
Coley - Great leg drives,goo offload, same drops to knees for the play.
Feka - Fantastic go forward, offload, pretty slow play of the ball, quite poor in defence at times.
Prescott and O'Carroll - both average in both areas of attack and defence, but have time on their sides. But both can be match winners in games at times.

The only problem is you totally ignore the other top notch Props that are at Leeds and Saints.

Too true, as I said in a previous post, time and fans patience are not on IL 's side.
