To be fair, the Danny Maguire knock on to win the Challenge Cup ended that as a concept and Welsby obstructing French for the winning try in the Covid Grand Final ended that so they're probably right. And it goes without saying that the World Cup itself is no more because of the Ryan Hall "no try" that the Aussies, themselves, benefitted from :lol:

On the "controversy", there's a picture on this very thread that shows Wardle gets the ball to the line so all the whinging about being short is utter garbage. His other elbow is clearly on the whitewash and both Penrith defenders hands are on the ball and clearly 6 inches or so over the line too. Apparently, though, it was that short he'd have needed an Uber to get to the line! :lol:

On sending the Penrith effort at the end as "no try" he is picked up on the ref's mic saying he saw Field's hand under the ball. What's he supposed to do? Ignore what he saw just to please the Aussies?

Both calls were correct and the whinging Aussies (and more pathetically certain opposition fans) are doing what they do best: being sore losers. As you quite rightly point out, the hypocrisy isn't lost.

Two losses to the poms on the bounce for Australia's greatest side. Feels good, doesn't it! :ROCKS:

Fair play to you FTV,I popped on to redvee to see the love for another SL side getting the better of a great Aussie side but alas it wasnt to be (as expected).But you tried to have a balanced and honest opinion pal but some just could only insult,so once again cheers for that.

Are you saying he didn't ground it because you're the only person in the world who is saying that if you are?

The conversation is around being short or double movement. If you accept he's over the line (it's hard to argue otherwise given that pic) then it's whether you feel it was a double movement or not which is a 50/50 at best.

I'm not sure what your objection is here other than Wigan won and you wanted them to lose.

On a separate note, as I've posted elsewhere, the team with the greater flair, invention, execution and will to win got the result. Isn't that what's sport is supposed to be about?

The only wording of that I'd disagree with is them (Penrith) whining about the calls. Maybe some of their fans are but their players and coach were extremely gracious and showed plenty of class. I've seen just Brian To'o from Penrith come out with some religious stuff about God not liking people lying or something like that but you can't win them all.

In terms of the Wigan and Saints stuff, it's to be expected. We're massive rivals and lets face it, we're the only two sides who look capable of consistently stopping the other winning trophies at the minute, so you're going to get it. I'm not really fussed whose win was better, they were both exceptional in different ways (fwiw the fact Saints were away ranks it higher IMO) and while I know Penrith were not at their best in either, they should still win the games as you say and it's a credit to how well Wigan and St Helens run their clubs that they've been able to beat them. Neither sides win makes them the best team in the World IMO but it just gives a huge sense of pride and it feels great to ram it down a few Aussie throats. They can continue disrespecting us all they want for me.

Saw a post yesterday stating the NRL cap is A$12m and the SL Cap is A$4m per season.

To compare it would be like Batley beating Saints one year and then Wigan the year after in the Regal Trophy final if we played it now.

I don’t think that’s true. The Aussie teams have all the power really, not the organisers or sponsors. If they don’t wanna play they won’t play, they didn’t play in 2021 or 2022 and they even forced the game to postpone its World Cup because they didn’t wanna travel. There’s every chance they’ll just say nah next year, and not just because of Saturday but SL rules next year are going to be so radically different from NRL rules that there probably won’t be much point in playing it.

That said congratulations for Saturday, whatever we think about the calls it was an incredibly gutsy performance and a really fun game to watch. I wouldn’t be arsed what oppo fans are saying, we’ve had people whinging about every win we’ve had for the last 5 years. Rugby league fans in this country are the absolute worst when it comes to stuff like that.

Should be a good title race this year. From what I’ve seen so far I think you and us are a clear cut above the rest, but as for who will win when we come face to face, I genuinely have no idea. Good Friday should be a cracker

Yes, revenge for the last minute Hall try that was ruled out because "the ball was about to bounce up and his finger was on the side of the ball, so no downward pressure and no try". Maybe we will get to sensing how the air within the ball is moving in the future to help disallow tries?
