I think Locke plus two others for Tomkins is a brillaint deal personally. If that goes through, I can't see much hope for the rest of Super League next year.

this season has shown that we CAN live without sam. he's been a shadow of the player he was last year, but we're doing well. so long as he is replaced by a good player, we'll be fine.

not sure that we'd be much better than the rest of SL, but i do believe that a 3-1 swap would not be a problem, if the 3 add depth to areas where we are weaker.

A valid point. I think there's a genuine chance he might come over with a coverted secret mission to encourage all our young players to drink heavily and beat up women - maybe even dabble in a bit of smack. In fact, there's a possibility he could convince them all to have a sex change and call themselves Janice, quit rugby league altogether and get a job working at stilettos in Wigan. I'd stay well clear.

I wouldn't. It took us long enough to get rid of that culture from the club...and I suspect Nobby made Long's leaving one of the conditions of him taking over.

I'm inclined to agree but I've thought that a lot over the last few years and to be fair we haven't got a lot wrong in terms of recruitment etc.

What if he goes down, and we've 'shaken up' what is already a very skilled and organised youth coaching department to accommodate him?



At the very least, Wigan should give this fella extremely wide berth until this latest embarrassing debacle that he's involved in has been resolved.

At the end of the day the culture at the club is set by the head coach.



All the players and coaches essentially report into Wane and he's head honcho.



Long will fit into that system or he'll be gone. The players will buy into the 100% ethos set by Wane and the senior players and if not and again they will be gone.



Wigan must have seen something in Longy that they like. I'm happy with that as I know for a fact there will be no inch given if he steps out of line.

Yes very true after all how many here were disgusted we were linked with Iestyn Harris a few months before he joined us. Some ahh i remember we got him for free so we did not take Paul Sculthorpe argument etc. And those 2 crap players we got from The Crusaders Dudson and Flower both awful. Some people and its the same ones who now moan at the Long link do end up looking stupid more often than not.



Great players is no guarantee of becoming a great coach but he must have something about him for both Us and Saints looking at giving him a job.

I also think it's worth out pointing out what a coaches job is.



A coach is someone that sets standards for the team but doesn't have to follow them himself. If a coach says no alcohol the night before the game he's not talking about himself or his back room staff he's talking about the guys who have to play the next day. If the coach sets a curfew of 10pm it doesn't apply to him but only to the players.



You can't also judge a coach on the lifestyle he lived during his players. Our very own Wane wasn't a model pro but it hasn't stopped him setting the highest of standards when it comes to what the current team have to adhere to. Heck many of the worlds great coaches weren't even that good players. Look at football and guys like Jose or Ferguson!



The job of the coach is to bring out the best in the players. If Long can do this then i'll be happy.



That being said there are always barriers that you don't cross and if he's acting like a d head in town, getting into fights and arrested he's going to be sacked.

He's got offers so he's guaranteed a job somewhere, I do think that will be Wigan. However, as of yesterday nothing had been signed.

So the head coach is bagged unfairly on here for a fortnight earlier this season by a select few (to the point the thread was locked as things were getting near to the bone) without a shred of evidence whatsoever, just heresay.



Now compare that to a guy charged with an offence and awaiting a court date.

Or he got sacked.



Nobby is hardly his biggest fan.

There's a big difference between wary of signing guys because they are unproven as players or coaches and being wary of signing a guy because he has a track record for being an absolute kn0bhead.



We've just got rid of one. Do we really want to appoint another one - and give him a position of power and influence?
